The growing interest in indigenous knowledge for sustainable development and international scientific cooperation has been reflected in recent years through the emergence of new strategies aimed at reframing priorities, protecting knowledge, and making it widely accessible. Sustainable development, understood as co-development, is the central focus of the collaboration between academic institutions in West Germany and the Institute for Strategic and Peace Studies in Cameroon.
The term 'Sciences' as defined by UNESCO is understood here in its broadest sense, encompassing natural sciences, technological sciences, human sciences, and the so-called exact sciences. Similarly, 'development' refers to sustainable development—not limited to so-called 'developing' or 'emerging' countries in the Global South and East, but extending to the so-called 'developed' nations as well, with an emphasis on equality, solidarity, and global balance.
The interdisciplinary section 'Science and Development' currently focuses on understanding aspects related to the use and application of science in fostering development. Additionally, the communication strategies taught here play an essential role in achieving the objectives of sustainable development, whether by explaining its significance, encouraging behavioral change, or promoting societal initiatives.
Finally, this book marks the 10th edition of this collaborative effort between German and African universities. It introduces an innovative international co-research format supported by renowned scientists from various departments across the university.
