A tale of courage and bravery—the daring and dangerous trek that gave young America its first real victory, paving the way for the future of a great democratic nation.

This exciting middle grade novel is the true story of Will Knox, a nineteen-year-old young man who transported 183 cannons from New York’s Fort Ticonderoga to Boston—in the dead of winter—to help George Washington win an important battle.

Paul Revere's midnight ride...Washington crossing the Delaware...the winter crisis at Valley Forge... Some events in America's War for Independence are known to all. This book brings to history fans the story of another true episode, just as dramatic but not nearly as well known.

As you read these pages, you will agree that Colonel Knox's great adventure was a stirring, suspenseful, and important event in American history.

I read and review stories for young boys, because that's what I have. This was a hugely successful book. It's compelling to read aloud. Reit is a natural storyteller who paces the narrative very well with short chapters that appeal to little ones' attention span. His language is pitched just right--a few words had to be explained, but that stretches the young mind. And, it has the additional advantage of being a true story from our nation's origins. Books for youngsters hardly ever get better than this. Highly recommended.

This is a fabulous book! It is engaging and informative historical fiction account of an important event in American history!

I loved this story. I love history and the Revolutionary War has always been sadly overlooked in American story-telling. So many stepped up in a time of need like this that it is easy to overlook the fact that they were common people who knew how to work within the bounds and elements they faced with a foresight and determination that is uncommon. The heroes in this story exemplify this.I hate to think where we would be without them.

The book is written as an adventure story for young readers, and young readers, as well as senior citizens like me, will enjoy the story. It keeps your interest very well, and since it is a true story of victory, the ending is great. I can't wait to pass it on to my great-nephew and great-nieces. They'll love it, too.

Clear, easy to read, and entertaining account of the Knox Expedition to retrieve the guns from Fort Ticonderoga. It includes details missing in some of the other accounts. Tells part of the story from the viewpoint of youth, which provides a refreshing perspective. I am using it as one of the resources for my Blogging a Book website: PatriotsAndRedcoats.Com.

WRITTEN BY A MIDDLE -SCHOOLER.
This is a great book I enjoyed reading it a lot.
It's very exiting and very well told.
It tells true the story of how Henry Knox and his brother Will Knox go through the mountains and many hardships to transport cannons, mortars and other supplies from Fort Ticonderoga to Cambridge for General Washington .

I really enjoyed this book and I recommend it.

I bought this book for my pre-teen son. It was an easy read that he was able to finish in one day, digest, and come back and provide me with a book report about. He was able to explain the story to me in a few minutes which tells me the book is well written and understandable. Also, the book was read in one (summer) day giving him a sense of accomplishment and building confidence.

This is an exciting book for any outdoorsy kid or one who enjoys history (or any kid who has visited Lake George or Fort Ticonderoga and has taken an interest in their history). It is a little-known part of the War for Independence for historically significant. Those who succeeded in breaking the siege of Boston through the difficult task of bringing the cannons for Fort Ti to Boston showed much grit, perseverance, toughness, patience, and incredible problem-solving abilities. This book is an insperation!

Henry and Will Knox , against many odds , but with much help from many men and boys that help along the way, haul heavy cannons in winter from fort Ticonderoga to Dorchester heights, and drive the British out of Boston!
