Joshua Stamper initially used his artistic talent, creativity and original ideas as a professional graphic designer. He then transitioned to inspiring students to utilize their imagination and creative expression in public education. Being unsuccessful as a student growing up, Joshua never expected to be back in the classroom as a teacher, athletic coach or administrator. His struggles as a student spawned a passion to change the education model, push the boundaries of traditional learning, and explore new innovative ideas. Joshua has been a middle school Assistant Principal in North Texas for the past eight years, where he's served at four campuses in two school districts.

In addition to his current administrative position, Joshua is the host of Aspire: The Leadership Development Podcast, an author, leadership coach, education presenter, and Podcast Network Manager for the Teach Better Team. Joshua lives in the Dallas, TX area with his wife and five children. You can stay connected by following @Joshua__Stamper on Twitter and Instagram, or by visiting his website www.joshstamper.com. You can book Joshua for a keynote or school-based training by contacting Jeff Gargas at Jeff@teachbetter.com.

Joshua is one of the most heartfelt and thoughtful educators I know. This work affirms his good-nature and innate desire to empower education leaders. He is highly reflective and provides practical information to support leaders today, intentionally avoiding being overly theoretical and non-substantive. His ability to sustain your interest stems from his conversational style of writing that likely is a result of his work as edu-podcaster. If you need encouragement, fulfillment, and inspiration in this season, I highly recommend picking up this book.

I have looked to Joshua for wisdom and perspective on the topic of school leadership as a longtime Aspire: The Leadership Development Podcast listener. I have always found Joshua’s voice to be authentic, kind, and compassionate. He has transferred his inspiring podcast to a book that is just as spectacular. This book outlines the path to a school leadership position. It traces Josh’s journey through the lens of the ASPIRE Model action steps providing gems of advice and support along the way. There are equal parts inspirational moments and practical advice with personal examples from Joshua and other contributing authors. The guest author statements are from experienced, influential, reflective leaders who generously offer advice, insight, and support. Joshua answers his own introductory podcast prompt, “Tell me about your leadership journey,” with his honesty and vulnerability. In exposing his heart for leading those within his charge, we will all benefit and aspire to become better leaders.

I was hooked into Joshua’s story immediately, and found many connections to what he was saying and going through. Perhaps one of the things I loved most about this story is Joshua’s humility and vulnerability. He shares stories of success and failure, highs and lows, and how all of them helped to shape who he is and his philosophy of leadership. If you are an educator, you are a leader, and this book is for you. You will gain insight, find encouragement, and challenged all along the way.

This book clearly outlines Josh’s journey to becoming a school administrator and what he learned along the way. It’s a nod to those who helped him grow along the way as well as providing insights from educational thought leaders on topics that make up the ASPIRE acronym. As a fellow educational podcaster, I am impressed at how Josh has been able weave themes of podcast episodes into guest writer’s spotlights. Thanks, Josh, for inspiring others to #aspiretolead!

I know this book is geared towards teachers and those in the educator realm which is not my wheelhouse. BUT I was still able to take so much from this book in areas that I wanted to lead in my life both personally and professionally. I took so much from this book and I know anyone else reading it will do the same!

Joshua Stamper's book, Aspire to Lead, is so much more than a guide for aspiring administrators. It reads like an autobiography. The reader becomes engrossed in Joshua's story, feeling as if they are also on the same aspiring school administrator journey. We feel his pains, cheer throughout his triumphs, and want nothing more than to see Joshua meet his goal. After walking in Joshua's shoes, we come across sage advice to become a better leader and steps towards acquiring our dream administrative position. Aspire to Lead will help not only those seeking to make the leap into school administration, but even seasoned veterans to self-reflect on their own practice. The advice and suggestions in Joshua's book work, not through years of research and analysis, but through first-hand experience. Give Aspire to Lead a read and become the administrator your staff, families, and students deserve.
