I really enjoyed this book. It's easy to just choose a chapter a day since they're all written by different people. I knew about a lot of the men of course but the chapters that were the most interesting were the men I'd never heard of, like Bernardo de Galvez and Robert Morris. I certainly learned what a great diplomat Benjamin Franklin was in France!

I feel this was a very fair and even handed treatment of the men. Even the chapter on Benedict Arnold made me realize his being a traitor was not such a cut and dry deal. There was a lot that led up to that moment in his life in which he chose to side with the British. Makes you realize no one is all bad or all good; they are human with human frailties, but they sure gave a lot in the war. It truly seems a miracle we won the Revolution after reading accounts like these. I am grateful!

This book is made up of short stories, each of them dedicated to a prominent figure. These people helped form, defend and mold a new nation. I considered myself familiar with American history until I read these accounts.

This is a collection of essays by historians on various figures of the American War of Independence. All well-written and solid essays on a variety of figures: Samuel Adams (the father of the revolution), Joseph Warren, John Wilkes, Israel Putnam, Thomas Gage, George Washington, Thomas Paine, Henry Knox, Frederick MacKenzie, John Hancock, Charles Lee, Nathanael Greene, Friedrich Von Steuben, Lord North, John Paul Jones, George Rogers Clark, John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Daniel Morgan, Benedict Arnold, Bernardo De Galvez, and Robert Morris. The only new figure to me was Bernardo De Galvez, but anyone interested in the American War of Independence and the men who were part of it will find this book an excellent read. Yes, there are a number of figures missing (Thomas Jefferson, Patrick Henry, Paul Revere, etc.) but any book must choose what it will cover.
Recommended.

I had never heard of some of these contributors to the birth of our nation. And Grovenor expanded my knowledge of the contributions of many others. Fascinating vignettes. Well worth reading and re-reading.

I knew Washington, Greene, Arnold, and more but not of men like De Galvez. You'll also learn something new about all of them.
Thanks Mr. Grosvenor for putting this little historical jewel together.

I would retitle the book "Men of the Revolution", dropping "The", as it certainly doesn't cover all the men of note, let alone ALL the men involved in the American Revolution. That said, the brief biographies of notable men on both sides of the revolution are interesting and well-written.
