About the authors
Okay, I'm a late bloomer who's a big DC comics fan and spent my childhood summers on the Jersey shore in the U.S. but have had a weird wanderlust to live in different parts of America ever since. That's enough about me. Need to feel inspired today? Looking for something to make you root for an ordinary hero? I'm all about that in everything I write.
I love a good tale that makes me wonder about things and I love a story even more that leaves me feeling inspired or like I'm capable of doing more than I realized. That's my goal with everything I've ever written. Some of the stories I tell involve twisting, turning thrillers and others have a lot of magic.
There's something to be said for getting lost in another world and coming out the other side feeling a little better about yourself or the possibilities in front of you. That's basically the best part of life in a nutshell, no matter what kind of story I'm setting out to tell.
Thank you for checking out my stories! There's more at www.marthacarr.com.
Join us on Facebook to hear about new books, giveaways, an idea rolling around about a universe-wide scavenger hunt at the end of the year and more. If you like the series please leave a review and send me a note. More adventures to follow - and thanks for sticking with me.
K. A. Last has always been artistic and creative. She has a diploma in Graphic Design and has worked in the publishing industry for more than twenty years. Blessed with a vivid imagination, she began writing to let off creative steam and fell in love with it. She also has a Bachelor of Arts degree from Charles Sturt University with a major in English, and minors in Children’s Literature, Art History, and Visual Culture. She resides in the Australian countryside on the Mid-North Coast of NSW with her family and a menagerie of animals.
Jamie Davis is a nurse, retired paramedic, author, and nationally recognized medical educator who began teaching new emergency responders as a training officer for his local EMS program. He loves everything fantasy and sci-fi and especially the places where stories intersect with his love of medicine or gaming.
Jamie lives in a home in the woods in Maryland with his wife, eldest daughter, and 2 dogs. He is an avid gamer, preferring historical and fantasy miniature gaming, as well as tabletop games. He writes LitRPG, GameLit, urban, and contemporary paranormal fantasy stories, among other things.
He loves hearing from readers and going to cons and events where he meets up with fans. Reach out and say "hi.”
Cari Z was a bookworm as a child and remains one to this day. In an effort to combat her antisocial reading behavior, she did all sorts of crazy things, from competitive gymnastics to alligator wresting (who even knew that was legal!) to finally joining the Peace Corps, which promptly sent her and her husband to the wilds of West Africa, stuck them in a hut, and said, "See ya!" She also started writing, because some things she just thought she could do better. She's still climbing that ladder, but can't stop herself from writing, or from sharing what she creates.
Cari enjoys a wide range of literary genres, from the classics (get 'im, Ahab) to science fiction and fantasy of all types, to historical fiction and reference materials (no, seriously, there are so many great encyclopedias out there). She writes in a wide range of genres as well, but somehow 90% of what she produces ends up falling into the broad and exciting category of m/m erotica. There’s a sprinkling of f/m and f/f and even m/f/m in her repertoire, but her true love is man love. And there's a lot of love to go around.
Cari has published short stories, novellas, and novels with numerous print and e-presses, and she also offers up a tremendous amount of free content on Literotica.com, under the name Carizabeth.

Hailing from the Midlands, England, E.G. Bateman has been writing since 2014 while she worked full time as a project support specialist. It wasn’t until 2019 that Bateman began writing full time and since then she has turned her passion of writing into books which have generated a great fan following. She has published nine novels and is currently working on her third series. Her characterization and gift for writing compelling dialogue make her books a fun read, leading bestselling author Michael Anderle to describe Elaine’s unique ability as “Phenomenal” …a badge of honor Elaine says she will never let him forget.
She lives with her family and five dogs.
She is active in the author community, and her love for all things Buffy endures.
Fueled by black coffee, ice cream and bad nineties music, L.A. McGinnis spends her days writing best-selling steamy fantasies filled with damaged heroes who long to be whole and smart, authentic heroines. A life-long fascination with storytelling inspired her to weave these contemporary tales of legendary fated mates where the princess never needs rescuing, but sometimes the hero does.

Currently residing in Georgia with three cats - who tolerate her - she writes her own version of Urban Science Fiction. If you're looking for science, aliens, invasions, explosions, and maybe a touch of magic in some series, you've found the right author.
She fully admits to being weird, after all she writes about aliens and knows how to milk goats. If you want to talk books, she'll talk all day long, but admits she hasn't had time to watch much TV in the last three years, the price of a writing addiction.
Hey - did you find an error? I am human, trust me, my flaws are many and perfect prose is not among my graces. If you go to my facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/badashbooks/ There is a pinned post. Put it there and I'll fix it ASAP. - Thanks, Mel
DM Fike wanted desperately to join the X-Men growing up. Barring that, she would have enjoyed riding a unicorn or at least meeting a fairy. Since none of that happened, she decided to write books about everyday people discovering magic through a series of epic adventures. She’s currently living out her own happily-ever-after with her husband and two wonderful children in Oregon.
Fiona Grey wanders through stories at https://fionagreywrites.com with an amazing husband and Writing Cat. After years of technical writing and editing, her creative brain escaped into the wild, likely as a consequence of severe overeducation. She enjoys thinking nonlinearly and introversion. Other people claim this is “weird,” which is unsubstantiated.
I have been writing since I was a small child and discovered I could have a million adventures at the stroke of my pencil (I wasn't allowed to use pen back then). I have written more stories than I could even publish, some of them I wouldn't ever put out, but I have had a blast writing them. I love writing, I love reading. I love to have a fictional adventure. When I am not doing that I am with my children or studying. I have a lifelong love of learning too.
I live in the North of England. It's a little chilly here and a little wet, but it is what I call home and where pretty much all of my stories are based.

Marie is a multi-award winning fantasy and science fiction writer with a serious reading addiction. If she wasn't writing about all the people in her head, she'd be lurking about coffee shops annoying total strangers with her stories. So really, writing is a way of saving the masses.
Her first fantasy series, The Lost Ancients, starts with The Glass Gargoyle. The rest of the series is complete at six books total. A continuing series follows another adventure and started with The Seeker's Chest.
A space opera trilogy, The Asarlai Wars, launched with Warrior Wench, and continued with the Victorious Dead. The final book, Defiant Ruin, is available now. More adventures in a second trilogy start with Traitor's Folly!
A steampunk adventure, A Curious Invasion, followed by The Mayhem of Mermaids, will conclude in 2023 with An Intrigue of Pharaohs.
Like portal epic fantasy? The Essence of Chaos is the first book in the books of the Cuari series. The third book, Destruction of Chaos, releases in 2023.
Lighter romantic fantasy can be found with the completed Magic & Sorcery Chronicles. Three royal sisters face challenges and romance on their way to the throne.
When not saving the masses from coffee shop shenanigans, Marie likes to visit the UK and keeps hoping someone will give her a nice summer home in the Forest of Dean or in northern Wales.
Marie is also a member of SFWA (Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers Association) and NINC (Novelists, INC).
To find out more about the books, and future series, please visit her website at www.marieandreas.com--especially if you happen to have a small cottage to give her.
Chris enjoys tales of magic, dragons, shapeshifters, and werewolves. From her home in Austin, Texas, she conjures her stories with a touch of wonder and a sprinkle of otherworldly charm. Deep within her imagination spark adventures where ancient secrets are unveiled, destinies are entwined, and realms collide. Bringing these stories to the page, she transports readers to realms where magic reigns and mythical creatures roam. According to her husband, it is possible that she reads too much.
Rebecca Bosevski is the author of a collection of fantasy and science fiction novels including, the Enchanting The Fey series, Alpha Nine, and the Imperium Academy series.
She lives on the sunny coast of Australia with her husband and three children and when not writing she will often be found with her nose in a book.

Noah is a writer of comedy, in whatever form seems like the most fun at the time. Most of his work is in horror comedy/ urban fantasy, but only because Hasbro won't let him write books about Transformers.
Noah grew up in Southeast Kansas, then lived in Asia (South Korea, China, and Thailand) for most of a decade, acquiring a wife and daughter in the process. He is currently living back in Kansas and is openly resentful about having to grow up and settle down. He plans to take frequent vacations abroad, just as soon as his books are turned into movies or he hits the lottery.
Noah never really knows what’s going on, but attempts to have a good time anyway. He hopes you have as much fun reading his books as he does writing them.
Kendrai Meeks was deported from the American Midwest after graduating college, and held against her will since in California. She really hates sarcasm. She first published in 2011, and has since put out nine books in romance and science fiction. In 2017, she decided to return to her first love, urban fantasy. She is the founder of the Bay Area Allied Indie Authors group. She has also been a featured speaker on a number of conference and industry panels on topics ranging from Fanfiction, to Audiobooks, to Serialized Fiction. She is a world music devotee and loves to travel (just hates to fly – a conflict, for certain). She enjoys twisting the extant into the exceptional, often basing her work on historical themes or legendary folk tales and mythology.
A jack-of-all-trades in the entertainment business, RC (also known as Robin Claire) has been an actress, screenwriter, a movie executive at Walt Disney Studios, foley artist, and a puppeteer. On a perfect day, you can find her curled up with a mystery, listening to the rain outside, nibbling chocolate, and sipping tea or wine (depending on the hour). She lives in Berkeley and is the mother of three very nice people.
Avril Sabine is an Australian author who mostly writes young adult and children's speculative fiction. She has been writing since she was a young child and wanted to be an author the moment she realised someone wrote the books she loved to read. Avril is the author of more than eighty titles, including the Assassins Of The Dead series, Demon Hunter series, Dragon Blood series, Realms Of The Fae series, Guardians Of The Round Table series and The Irish Wizard.

Marianne Morea is a native New Yorker, and her stories embody the grit and complexity of the city that never sleeps. An avid traveler, she uses experiences from around the world in all her books. Her love affair with the paranormal is born of fantasies, transporting her into the world of what if...
Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Romantic Suspense are the hallmarks of her writing style. A wicked sense of humor tempers the dark parts in stories where readers are thrust into a world of fantasy and love, humor and tears, darkness and redemption.
Favorite quotes.
...from Practical Magic:
"My darling girl, when are you going to realize that being normal is not necessarily a virtue? It rather denotes a lack of courage!" Aunt Frances, Practical Magic.
"Can love really travel back in time and heal a broken heart? Was it our joined hands that finally lifted Maria's curse? I'd like to think so. But there are some things I know for certain: always throw spilt salt over your left shoulder, keep rosemary by your garden gate, plant lavender for luck, and fall in love whenever you can."
...from Steel Magnolias:
Ouiser: "You are evil, and you must be destroyed."
Clairee: "Mother Nature's taking care of that faster than you could."
Truvy: "Laughter through tears is my favorite emotion.
Doug Parker writes Action & Adventures stories in the realms of Science-Fiction and Urban Fantasy.

He lives in Bermuda with his wife, child, cat, two dogs and enough wild birds to make Alfred Hitchcock nervous.

Please sign up for the N.A. Grotepas newsletter at www.readerlinks.com/l/1914107, snag your copy of the prequel, and begin reading in the Dred Dixon universe right away.
N.A. Grotepas writes stories with snarky female leads discovering their found family and fighting against maniacal Bond-villain types. Her characters typically inhabit fascinating and inviting locations that provide readers with an escape from the "real world." N.A. studied folklore in college and after obtaining an M.A., almost pursued a doctorate in the field, but was saved from that drudgery by her laziness in gathering letters of recommendation. After a stint in the publishing industry as an editor, she left to pursue her own desires of conquering worlds--both real and imagined--one book at a time.

As collections of short stories go, this one is rather good.
Recommended, IF you enjoy short stories.
I got it because of Martha Carr, who is fantastic, but I continued reading for all the other authors.
The book is highly recommended for itself, and as a gateway to many readable new authors.
Edited from 5 stars to One Star.
Not on the quality of the writing, but rarher on the authors choice to remove the book from Kindle without notice. I tend to get books on KU, read them, re read them if interesting, and then buy the Kindle edition if I find it worth keeping, so that the author may be paid twice. I deleted this from KU, went to buy the Kindle version, and found that only a paperback was available, at a nearly hardback price.
I will try to contact the author directly, but at this point, Martha Carr and her co-writers are off of my buy or read lists. I generally buy and read in excess of 100 new books per year. Done.

Interesting ideas from all the different authors, with a variety of magical yet with the same basic theme of the summer solstice.
