Flashbacks: (an unreliable memoir of the '60s) Kindle Edition

3.9 3.9 out of 5 stars 54 ratings

A collection of memories about growing up hippie in Toronto, during one of the most interesting periods of the 20th century. Not to mention the sex, drugs and rock and roll…

Morgan Smith was only twelve during the Summer of Love, but her parents had plunged headlong into the Age of Aquarius, and she was no mere bystander. From paisley shirts to protest rallies and from Be-Ins to hash brownies, she lived through one of the most ground-breaking and outright joyous periods of the 20th century as a participant, and through her memories, she shares what it was like to watch the world change.

Morgan Smith has been a goatherd, a landscaper, a weaver, a bookstore owner and archaeologist, and she will drop everything to travel anywhere, on the flimsiest of pretexts. Writing is something she has been doing all her life, though, one way or another, and now she thinks she might actually have something to say.

Morgan Smith tells a good story and she tells it well. The anecdotes and descriptions of time and place pulled me in from page 1 as did her excellent writing about coming of age in Toronto in the 60s surrounded by people who were active in the counterculture movement. I kinda wish there was a Part 2!

It was very interesting but the end was like going blind during a movie. What the hell happened to the rest of the book!

Sometimes you read someone else's life so you can remember yours. A tear shed more than once. Time missed but pick upped in this book.

Having grown up in those times, I found both her writing and recollection of the era to be an authentic and valid account of how it really was. For those that actually lived during the sixties or for younger people that are merely curious, I highly recommend it.

Thought book was going to be about a look back on the best times ever but instead just another coming of age book and not told very well

I was engrossed in th entire book. I really wanted to follow further and get an idea of the rest of her life. . I'm glad she survived.

Definitely a wild read, opening the pages I wasn't quite sure what to suspect, but I was happily surprised. Morgan Smith is a wonderful writer and I am definitely a fan.

Her interesting life made for an interesting read. Like a "trip" through the author's memories, brings 1960's Toronto to life.

I didn't like this book not what I thought it was about. I grew up during these years and had more fun.
