Ernie Oppenheimer felt guilt and responsibility for the predicament of the people aboard Estrellita. But, he had a plan, a long time-formulated and dangerous. All his hopes for a return back to the Earth below were being placed in one, proverbial basket with the eggs. The Children of Estrellita, led by him would return to Earth to secure a spot to bring the rest of known humanity back to the planet. So many things could go wrong, but so much could go right for the survivors. If he convinced the right people to follow through, he could accomplish the job, and somehow raise the guilt from his shoulders he'd carried for more than thirty years. Now to convince the Commander, a few allies and the rest of the crew. What he didn't know about were the plans of the man plotting against him, even if that person had no clue he was plotting. Time would tell, but time was rapidly evaporating....

Rick is a writer and is the author of "Basic Survival and Communications in the Aftermath" and the Science Fiction novel (first in a series) "Aftermath's Children".

He is a retired Non-Commissioned Officer having served twenty-six years in the United States Air Force in Combat Communications, the White House Communications Agency and as the Communications Flight chief for the 302nd Tactical Airlift Wing, as well as serving in the Missile Defense Agency as a Electronic Security Systems Engineer for just over eighteen years.

Having been a communicator, military trainer, college teacher and contractor, he worked with his family over the last 40 years to develop survival skills in the children and now the grand children, spouses and other family and friends. Rick has traveled extensively having visited approximately fifty countries, including islands in the South Pacific, Caribbean, and five continents.

Rick and his wife, JoAnne, currently live aboard their Sailing Ketch, "Adventure". When not traveling on the ship, they hang around Southport, NC preparing for their next adventure.

Rick's hobbies include Sailing, Seamanship skills, Amateur Radio, Amateur Astronomy, building and shooting bows and arrows, weapons marksmanship, hiking, sword fighting, brewing beer and mead and writing short stories, blog entries and novels.

Rick does not consider himself to be "an expert" in all forms of survival but has a "Jack-of-All-Trades" knowledge in many fields. He believes that being an expert in only one field of experience is limiting to the individual, while having even some small knowledge in many fields, however rudimentary that knowledge might be is more helpful.

For obvious reasons, his favorite quote is by Heinlein; "A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects." - Robert A. Heinlein
