You can tell that Marvel didn't really have a plan when it came to T'Challa. He just shows up as a guest across different titles with each writer having a different tone for the character. You don't really get any consistency until the Panther's Rage story arc in the second half of the book.
If you watched the two Black Panther movies you won't be spoiled because T'Challa's origin and Wakanda are different in these stories. Some of the characters from these stories were adapted for the movies like Man Ape a.k.a. M'Baku and Erik Killmomger.

But in typical Marvel cheapskate fashion, they did not quality control the printing of the book. Marvel will cut corners where they can and it results in sloppy, hard to read words in the captions. They have no shame that they did this to such fantastic work, but that's the Marvel way.
