Sometimes magic comes to those who least expect it…

Jacob Clark doesn't have time to believe in fantasies. He goes to school, works his after-hours job hard, and does what he can to keep his family above water. So after a mysterious girl tells him he's a prince from another world, he laughs the story off as fiction. But when his family is kidnapped by very-real attackers, Jacob has no choice but to team up with the girl to get them back…

In just 48 hours, Jacob must cross worlds to retrieve a magical key and rescue his family. With only the girl's misfit band of traveling companions and his own untested abilities at hand, the quest seems doomed to fail. But this is one job he can't bear to lose. To save his family and the kingdom, he'll have to live up to his princely legacy…

Andrea Pearson is an avid reader and outdoor enthusiast who plays several instruments, not including the banjo, and loves putting together musical arrangements. Her favorite sports are basketball and football, though several knee surgeries and incurably awful coordination prevent her from playing them.

Andrea graduated from Brigham Young University with a bachelor of science degree in Communications Disorders. She has published over two million words under three pen names, including 30+ novels, several non-fiction books, multiple novellas and short stories, and over a hundred articles for professional blogs and websites. She was executive director for Indie Author Hub for a year and a half, and she is frequently invited to teach about successful indie publishing in podcast interviews and at conferences and conventions.

Andrea is always in the mood for a good movie with close friends and family with a large glass of milk and a bowl of overly buttered popcorn nearby. Writing is the chocolate of her life - it is, in fact, the only thing she ever craves. Being with her family and close friends is where she’s happiest, and she loves thunderstorms, the ocean, hiking, public speaking, painting, traveling, and squeezing every bit of oxygen out of Ziploc bags.

She and her husband live in a beautiful little valley surrounded by hills.

This is a wonderful start to Jacobs story, we get to meet him and his friends and follow him as he learns about the world he came from and the powers that he never knew he had! Excellent characters and world building, fast paced story you won't want to put down and you step into another world with Jacob. I'm loving every minute of this series!

If you like fantasy, magic and adventure, you will like this series. Forsaken Prince is the first book in the Kilenya Chronicles series. This is an updated version of The Key to Kilenya series which was geared more towards middle schoolers. You can read this book as a standalone, but it does set the stage for future books. And luckily for you, this set contains the first three books in the series so it is easy to read them in order. There is violence and use of magic.

The book blurb adequately describes the storylines so I'm not going to repeat all of that info here. The characters are well written and multidimensional. The author does a good job of keeping a steady pace throughout the book to keep this reader interested. It keeps you guessing what twists and turns will be revealed in the pages ahead. I really enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the rest of the books in the Kilenya Chronicles series.

Great fantasy book. I have been reading Technical/Education books for the last few months and wanted to drain my brain on something I wanted to read, not something I had to. Lucked ac-crossed this series and I am thankful. These three books are a pretty simple young teen reads but don't let that fool you. Characters, are well developed and the story, is like other solid adventure story baselines. The first two books have a bit of a drag twist nearing the last bit of the book, but it does get explained in the end. I also found the interaction between the parents and the kids to be a little over the top. If you like books like, the Sword books, and even to some extent Harry Potter you will probably like these book. I personally would love to see this as a movie, way better then what Hollywood is turning out now.

Forsaken Prince.
Jacob is on a quest to save his family. I enjoyed the world created by the author. Abrupt opening, but well paced story. There are new terms and types of characters to learn about, along with Jacob's original homeland. I enjoyed the book and read all the sequels.
Ember of the Gods
I do own the original Ember of the Gods. This version is more streamlined and faster paced. Jacob gets to balance his life on Earth with his desire to save his friend in Eklaron. Since travel between worlds is like stepping through a tunnel, he can move back and forth. We see his struggles with classes, basketball, friends and learning more about his newly discovered powers. He also has a diary that teaches him more about his family.
August Fortress
Jacob finds himself pulled towards Eklaron. He learns about warriors called Sheingols who are trapped in the August Fortress. The Lorkons( main adversaries) have put traps all around it and it may be more than Jacob can manage.

When characters are created in a story, they should become a living entity, not a marionette to further the story and dance on strings according to the author.

Let us consider the main character in the first part of the story (minor spoilers):
In one day, after a full day at work…

He gets told he is the chosen one.
His father and sister are adbucted by wannabe demon minions.
His mother is brutally beaten.
He travels to a different world.
He finds lots of... little people with magic.

Gets attacked by possessed trees and snakes.
Gets shut in a room with lots of corpses.
Escapes from a witch, more trees and snakes.
Has not a single scratch on him.

At the end of the (day?), he shakes all of this off and simply "finds a blanket to sleep". Like a good video game character should.

This was a great attention grabbing, keep you guessing series. I read books 1-3 in less than 5 days (amid a full time job, kid's activities, life, etc). There are several current-day movie and book references made throughout which had me laughing several times.
Looking forward to the remainder of the series. My kids are going to love reading it when I'm finished!

So far the story has kept my attention. I look forward to reading the rest of the story. It does seem odd that Jacob was given these powers instead of his father. There are a lot of good characters with different abilities. I like the fat lady she is a strange character. I would recommend these books to anyone that like fantasy type stories. I picked this rating because it is a good story.

This is a story full of adventure and action. It also has family relationships that make it more engaging. It is a bit violent but that's what happens when the enemy tries to kill your family. I have also read the rest of the series, books 4-6, and they are a great ending to the story. I recommend this series. Be careful, the author has more books that will draw you in too.
