I have found this toy to be popular with boys and girls alike (especially because of the drill). I have even seen my son's teenage babysitters playing around with this toy :)
This tool set has also aided my son in his imagination. He loves the hammer and pretending to fix things around the house, especially to "help" his father with little odd jobs. I love it! A great gift!!!
I could only give this 4/5 stars though, mostly because I wish there were additional sets to buy to do more with this base set. Something like additional boards, screws, and nails you could buy with multiple hole placements so you could build boxes, or even just attach them randomly together. Three screws and three nails only give so much playtime. I also wish there were a top to it (to make it more like an enclosed box) so that it would be stackable and keep everything contained inside.
For the price I got it, it was worth it to me, and I suspect that this would be an even better toy for places like a pre-K or Dr office because it holds up very well but has a limited use (kids will probably be amused for 10 minutes tops then move on to other toys).
- A battery powered drill (that has a button to reverse directions to drill in and out, just like the real thing)
- Two drill bits
- Three screws that work with one of the drill bits
- A hammer
- Three nails that work with the hammer (they can easily be pounded in and pulled out using the hammer)
- A carrying case (that has six holes to fit the nails and screws, a compartment perfect for the drill, two drill bit holders, and another compartment for the hammer and anything else you want to add to the kit).
The carrying case is great - and whenever my husband and son are fixing something I always catch my son sneaking some of daddy's tools into his own carrying case. He's officially taken ownership of a small leveler and tape measurer, which can also fit into this carrying case! The drill really works great and is easy for small hands to hold.
The only negative about this product is the extra drill bit. It serves absolutely no purpose (unless we were supposed to get more screws that were compatible with it that just didn't come). It's great that the drill was designed to have interchangeable bits - like the real thing - but it's confusing to a two year old. He kept trying to switch the drill bit and screw in the provided screws and would get frustrated when it didn't work. I ended up just taking that extra drill bit out of the box when he wasn't playing with it - and he hasn't missed it! It would have been GREAT to have three additional screws that worked specifically for this bit, but regardless, it is still a great set and the price can't be beat!
