Who God Is, and What He Requires: It's All About Obedience Kindle Edition

5.0 5.0 out of 5 stars 8 ratings

The book details God’s love for His chosen nation Israel, and His church. He loves both in the same way as demonstrated by His mercy and grace. But He is also righteous and just and requires total obedience to all of His commandments and statutes. Because man is created in the image of God, man is to emulate God’s attributes. “And now Israel, what does the LORD your God require of you, but to fear the LORD your God, to walk in all His ways ...and to keep the commandments of the LORD and His statutes...” Deuteronomy 10:12-13 NKJV Fifteen hundred years after these verses were written, Paul confirmed that the church was to follow that same teaching. “Now all theses things happened to them (Israelites) as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. 1 Corinthians 10:11 NKJV

Walt has written many books and the first thing you notice is how he uses numerous scriptures to support what he says. Walt’s latest book lays out God’s requirements for obedience, his love for Israel and the church. There has always been confusion as to the separate identities between Israel and the church and how God relates to each. These pages will add clarity to God’s amazing plan for his people. Whether you are a theology student or a layman, you will find this work full of depth and simplicity.

This is undoubtedly Walt Thrun's masterpiece in showing readers Who God is and What He Requires: It's All About Obedience. Citing numerous Old and New Testament scriptures, Walt accurately shows what God expects from Israel and His Church and both the rewards of obedience and the consequences of disobedience. This book is a must read for all Christians who want to further their understanding of God's love. You will find yourself reading and rereading the book to get the lasting importance of Obedience and God's love. Can't wait for his next book.

Tom Carter Review of 'Who God is and what He requires'

The cover of this book really sets the stage, i.e. an image of the broken Ten Commandments and Christ
bearing His cross to pay the price.

The author sets forth in detail how God loves Israel and His church. Then it is described in what ways He shows His love for His chosen. God demonstrates His love by mercy, grace, long-suffering, favor, and faithfulness. Thus God is definitely the God of love; however, the final word in chapter 4 is 'but....'

The title of chapter 5 is 'God is also Holy, Righteous, Just, and Perfect'

The chapter following states that inasmuch as man is created in the image of God, it is commanded that man emulate God's attributes.

The subsequent chapter introduces the truth that man's predominant responsibility is obedience to all of God's commandments and statutes. Then the author details Israel's history of disobedience followed by detailed examples of obedience required of the church from the time of Christ.

The final chapter of the book illustrates the eternal consequences of the disobedience and the eternal reward for obedience.

The book is a wonderful Bible teaching tool. The book contains hundreds of Scripture passages which serve the basis for the narrative. It is one of the author's best.

Mr. Walt's book demonstrates sound theology throughout its pages. Starting from Genesis, walking through the Advent of Christ, and looking into the future of the end times, this book outlines God's requirement of obedience, man's inability to attain righteousness, and our dependence on Christ's sacrifice to please God.

I have a desire to read as much as I can about Israel. This book, "Who God Is, And What He Requires", will be a great addition to my library.
The book is filled with scripture and it is easy to locate because of the italicized format.
The summary section at the end of each chapter is helpful.
I would recommend this book to anyone who loves to read about Israel.

Walt Thrun has written several masterful books. This may be his best. He carefully answers the question, Does God love the church as He loves Israel? Who God Is, And What He Requires, is packed with scriptural evidence. Walt Thrun has shown the reader how important it is for believers to obey the Lord. This is a book you need to read. You will learn and you will be encouraged in your walk with the Lord.

Mr. Walt's book is full of in-depth study and well written. A good study guide for understanding what an Awesome, Loving and Holy God we serve. I would recommend this book for all to read.

Walt Thrun has written a series of six books now, all very good, and all dealing in some form or fashion with God's nature, Israel, the Church, and prophecy. All are useful in providing clarity in these topics, and in providing a solid foundation for understanding the Bible as one book, from Genesis to Revelation.

This book in particular, Who God is, And What He Requires, provides clear instruction using numerous bible verses from both Old and New Testaments on God's nature, how He dealt(deals) with Israel/the Church, and what He expects from Believers: Obedience.

When reading Walt's books, I have found it helpful to really take time to read and dwell on the scriptural references he provides for each point (and there are many). The scripture verses provide much more depth and clarity into the topic or point being discussed, especially when read in context. I highly recommend this book, and all of Walt Thrun's books, in order to more fully understand the overall arch of the Bible
