A collection of analytical and critical essays by practicing solo trial attorneys intended for the working public to explain the workings, nature, and theoretical basis of common law decision making. It contains a history of Western jurisprudence beginning with the earliest known common law decisions of the Old Testament continuing to Greek and Roman classical law, medieval legal systems, and then onto the modern American common law legal culture. The book critiques modern legal culture as a secular religion for modern technological society that is negating and replacing traditional concepts of Western religion. The book is sponsored by the Knights of Thermopylae Inn of Court.

All nine of Diviacchi's books on philosophy are outstanding. Individually and together, they offer a profound and coherent point of view that far surpasses the pinched range of acceptable opinion in extensity, insight, coherence, and value. If his "An Existential Meta-ethics" is challenging yet outstanding," this book is outstanding yet accessible and even humorous. The concrete examples he gives, ranging from personal life to past decisions of the Supreme Court, help us to shed more easily the blinders of illusion.

These essays provide a critical lens on modern law systems. I am especially persuaded by the author's comments on modern law as a secular religion. Five stars, highly recommended.

Highly intelligent and thoughtful essays. It is refreshing and thought provoking to get views of the legal culture and system from those in the trenches of that system and culture instead as usual from those behind or flying over the battle lines. This is also a good history book.

A great history of common law from the folks who have spent their lives as trial attorneys. A first hand account that you won't get anywhere else.
