The Only Father I Ever Knew is designed to help the fatherless understand that God is their Father when their own father has not been an active part of their life. Each of the twenty-four chapters in this book represent attributes of God that are “father-like.” Using a backdrop of author Lisa Burkhardt Worley’s own fatherless life, as well as the lives of other fatherless men and women she interviewed, it is her goal to show that only God can fill the void left in our hearts by an absentee earthly father. Lisa’s father, a Jewish physician, suffered a deadly heart attack at age 39 while playing polo. She was born two months later. For most of her childhood, Lisa lived with a mentally ill mother who never recovered from the premature death of her spouse while Lisa attempted to fill the void left by her deceased father. She searched for love in all the wrong places and made a numerous mistakes until she discovered the unfailing love of her heavenly Father.

Lisa Burkhardt Worley is an award-winning author of eight books. She is an international radio show co-host, popular speaker, and is the founder of Pearls of Promise Ministries, (www.pearlsofpromiseministries.com), a ministry with a goal of helping women overcome dysfunction and trials in their lives. Lisa spent twenty years as a national television sports reporter (HBO Sports and ESPN), regional anchor on the Madison Square Garden Network in New York City, and local sportscaster. Currently, her radio show with co-host Donna Skell, "A Time to Dream" can be heard on four different platforms throughout the week. In addition to her work with Pearls of Promise, Lisa is also the Director of Special Projects for Roaring Lambs Ministries, and is Vice-President of Marketing for Christian Women in Media. She serves at her church, Gateway, as Intercessory Prayer Leader for Jewish Ministries. Lisa earned a Masters of Theological Studies degree in 2008 from SMU Perkins School of Theology, graduating Magna Cum Laude.

Lisa Burkhardt Worley is a television/radio co-host, award-winning author of ten books, speaker, seminary grad, doctoral student and founder of Pearls of Promise Ministries, a ministry that helps women overcome life’s trials by sharing the strength and love of Christ.

Lisa is a 26-time award winner for her documentary, "Terror in Toulouse: Has the Community Recovered?" She is also the Executive Producer and Co-host of an evangelical, topical television and radio show called "POP Talk" seen on fourteen television, and numerous podcasting platforms. She spent nineteen years in television as a sports reporter, appearing nationally on both HBO Sports and ESPN. She was also an anchor for the Madison Square Garden Network in New York City, as well as San Antonio’s KENS-TV, but midway through her career, God grabbed her attention through a devastating job loss. At that point, she rededicated her life, and her television career to him.

I found great comfort reading “The Only Father I Ever Knew”. Having similar circumstances as Lisa, being in my mother’s womb at 7 months when my father was killed, it was interesting following her path and finding similarities in building a life dependent on God. May those reading this book gain incite in building a solid relationship with our God and the benefits of surrendering to him.

What a joy it was for me to read The Only Father I Ever Knew. Lisa Burkhardt Worley is an excellent writer who went through a horrific childhood with a mentally ill mother to end up as a national sports announcer! God's hand was on Lisa as she endured all the difficulties in her life and then paved the way for her to get to go to college and eventually seminary. Her walk with the Lord will be an example as you and I struggle at different times of our lives.
She also writes about other people's trials and how God met them through those. When I finished reading this book, I felt like my walk with God was stronger and that I could accomplish all things " through Christ who is in me!" I highly recommend this book.

Need to know a Father's love?

In her book, The Only Father I Ever Knew, Lisa not only shares candidly from her personal experiences of growing up fatherless, but she offers biblical insight into the importance of knowing God as the ultimate Father and receiving His unconditional love which transcends all pain and disappointment. This book is filled with love and hope for all who are seeking inner healing from the effects of loss or wounds brought about by their natural father.
