The Magik scarf is a delightful YA hero's journey.

Alyssa is tasked with not only saving her grandmother but having to stand on her own two feet for the first time. She must trust herself in order to avoid becoming a pawn in someone else's game.

Luckily, she makes some friends along the way worthy of her trust, and you can watch her grow through each adventure she endures.

The story feels like a glimpse back to olden times where magical creatures are sure to roam and wizard's are more common than you think.

Alyssa Chance Oh only partially brings her grandfather (Pappy Oh) back from recent death when she uses a spell she kinda messes up--kinda messes up a lot! So she unknowingly endangers her grandmother. To save her grandmother, she has to make a deal with a Gryphon king who's a braggart and manipulator. If Alyssa's to meet his deadline and retrieve his magic scarf for him, she's got to figure out half-truths and missing information and complete task after task to find who really has this important magical item...and we learn who this scarf truly belongs to. Along the way, she learns to reprove herself to the "authorities" who can (and can't) help her. This is a great quest story with high stakes that will keep young adult readers turning the pages while they see the importance of family and loyalty and sticking to an important goal.

The Perfect Gift!
Not my usual genre, but I came across this book while doing early Xmas shopping and the cover just pulled me in. If you are a parent, grandparent, aunt or uncle, or even a teacher of young teens who love adventure fantasy, this is an excellent novel to get into their hands. This is a superb, magnificently written first book in a brand new series that just might be the next great adventure series. Perfect for advanced readers in middle school and up into high school. Would be brilliant as a ‘read to me’ book for younger kids as well. I know my grandkids will love it!
