One Thing I Know: A Novel Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 136 ratings

She has the whole world fooled. But the one man who just may see through her holds not only the key to her success, but also her heart…

Rachel Somers is America’s #1 relationship coach—America just doesn’t know it. Rachel writes the books, but her Aunt Donna plays the face of the operation. Living in fear of their secret being exposed, Rachel has no choice but to keep up the charade or lose the big money required to care for her father. With the deadline for their next book closing in, Rachel finds herself out of inspiration and running out of time. The last thing she needs is her aunt and publicist concocting a harebrained scheme to join forces with some radio star in the hope it will help deliver the elusive next book idea.

Lucas Grant is a star of late night radio—though it’s come with an unexpected price of hordes of women who keep calling his sports show to ask him for relationship advice. They make his ratings look great, but they also mean he has to waste hours talking to people like Dr. Donna Somerville about feelings instead of his first love: football. When a big-time producer calls, it looks like his hard work is about to pay off. But the offer comes with a catch—the producer is convinced Dr. Donna is not what she seems and he wants Lucas to discover her secret. To do that, he needs to win over her tight-lipped assistant who holds the key to his success and—he begins to suspect—his heart. Can love find a way through the lies that force them apart?

Powerful Novel.
'I know that when nothing makes sense and life is as hard as it's ever been, God is even more present in the middle of all the brokenness. Because Jesus changes everything.'How do you even begin to write a review that truly expresses how you feel about a book that is just so tremendous, you weep through parts of it?For years Rachel Somers has been ghostwriting her Aunt Donna's best selling books. She doesn't want to, but it takes the big bucks the books make to pay for her father's expensive health care. She even does some of the media work, too, such as radio call ins with a certain Lucas Grant, sports radio guy. Lucas hates doing this type of work; after all, he's into sports, not relationships, as Donna's books detail. Then he is approached by a big time LA producer, asking him to get behind the secret of Donna's books because he is convinced something is indeed quite fishy. Lucas could use the money to help his own family, too. So he agrees. Neither Lucas nor Rachel ever figured on having feelings for each other; now there are too many lies between them. This book held me captive. Kara Isaac has a way with words and a story that simply grab the reader's heart and refuse to let go. Every word she writes is worth reading, no skipping ahead, no glossing over to get to the good part, so to speak, but to just read and savor every single word. Then go back and reread certain passages. How does she manage to pull my heart right out of my chest and cause me to weep at the depth of the feelings she has just portrayed? This is one well done book. Do not miss it. Do. Not. Miss. It. Bravo! I will be putting this on my top ten list for 2019 and thinking about it a long time. Definitely one worth a reread and for the keeper shelf.*My thanks to the publisher for a copy of this book. A positive review was not required. All opinions expressed here are entirely my own.

One Thing I Know is a beautiful walk through human struggles and triumphs. I was blessed by the array of characters that fully example life as we know it. Flawed. Blessed. Broken. Beautiful. I loved the passion with which the author’s faith weaves throughout the story and how imperfect people are portrayed as just that. Imperfect. In need of Grace. Kara Isaac’s consistency in providing quality yet realistic romance is palpable in this novel as it holds hands with a deeper dive into story that will attract both romantic fiction readers and women’s fiction readers alike. I highly recommend it and will be donating copies to my church library and giving away as gifts!

I love Kara’s writing style and in my opinion this story is a hit. Although a bit different than her previous books this one has humor, real emotional struggles, messy relationships and familial love. I recommend it to both Christian and non-Christian readers alike. This book has something for everyone.

Lucas is a single guy, radio host who is thrust into the limelight and forced throughout the story to battle between unforgiveness, a moral dilemma in considering a new job and possibly a chance at love.

Rachel is a ghostwriter masquerading as an assistant to her aunt Donna, who is the front person for her books. She prefers to blend into the background where for ten years she has isolated herself from friends in exchange for a badge of guilt over an accident her dad was in.

Can two wounded people navigate their challenges in the middle of a growing attraction to each other?

Some may not like it because it is a “Christian” book and others because it the main characters weren’t Christians and with some secondary and minor characters that are: gay, suffer from alcohol abuse, are lecherous, unfaithful, dishonest and unforgiving. None of these are graphic but are a part of the world we live in today. We must navigate a path between the world around us and life with grace.

I believe this is what Kara has done and look forward to more from this author.

Right before I was able to read One Thing I know I saw a post from the author saying that these main characters in One Think I Know is a bit different from her other books (which I have read all of them and love dearly). I had to go into it with an open mind and even though these characters are raw and hardened by the life experiences they have faced their reactions are real and the characters are flawed and in need of a savior. I won't give anything away but, know what is there is a way for us as Christians to see how others watch what we do, even in the hardest of times, and how we can show them the path to Christ. Thank you Ms. Isaac for showing your readers that yes, God can do all things but, it is in his timing and not our own. Even though it is different it is one of my favorites (and that is saying a lot).

Ok, so, this book is growing on me now that I’ve read some reviews haha. (I know, shockeroo, right?)

So apparently, it’s book one in a series. And I’ve unwittingly already read book two. So now I feel like I need to reread that one, both because it’s been two years and I’ve forgotten everything about it, and also to put both books into their proper context.

There are a few comments and elements in this book that surprised me, mostly as I did not expect them from a CF author/publisher. On the same token, neither MC is a Christian at the beginning or end of the book. (And the author has spoken to this; check out some of the other reviews, especially the three-star ones with comments, for more details close at hand.) And the world has these things in it, so I do get their inclusion. It was just unexpected at the time and I couldn’t quite figure out the end game involved. Now I feel I have a better grasp on it. And the Christian characters in the MCs’ loves are pretty darn amazing. So I’m excited to see where it all goes from here!

I enjoyed this story. It met my expectations for some laughter, but it had some serious difficult parts too. Ultimately, I liked that there was some food for thought regarding family and friend relationships; and the challenge to forgive people who have hurt you. I like storytelling by this author, and I like the way that God shows up in her stories. Most of all, Kara Isaac writes what I want in a romance where two souls are attracted to each other and there is a journey of exploration and relationship building, problems solving leading to commitment, intimacy, unity and a sense of finding home in one another.

What a fantastic story and one I just couldn’t put down. Lucas and Rachel are two broken souls who don’t trust love. She’s a ghostwriter for her aunt and he’s a radio sports broadcaster.
I was so moved by both of their stories, with the relationships between friends and family for both of them being complicated and messy. Yes, it’s written by a Christian, no it’s not overtly preachy and doesn’t reference the Bible or God in an obvious way. Yet, there is hope and forgiveness and redemption. In a way which moved this reader to tears at times. We live in a broken, messed up world and life isn’t easy or straight forward. I’m so glad this author had the courage to show that in a way which didn’t glorify the pain but which showed the light.
Having found out this is the first in a trilogy, let’s just say I can’t wait for the next one.

I love the way I was drawn into the story, to care for the characters and to experience a wide range of emotions as the story unfolded. I cried and I wanted to offer the characters my own advice as I watched them making what I thought were the wrong choices for all the wrong reasons. It was so very satisfying to see how the author brought all the complicated threads together to a satisfactory conclusion.

If you are looking for a satisfying yet complex tale about relationships and how circumstances can make things impossibly difficult then this is one I highly recommend to you. Beneath the fictional drama, there are some significant truths about how things in our past can be the challenges that keep us from our own happy-ever-after ending )i(
