However, early in the book there are several religious references that end up never having anything to do with the story. There are even Bible passages from Psalms (and not very noble ones at that). I could understand if this was an attempt to portray her as being a good person, but it does nothing of the sort. My guess is that it is just an attempt to attract Christian readers (while alienating non-Christians). Trying to figure out what it meant was very distracting.
Our main character, Amy Raven, starts off at an emotional and physical distance away from her family and friends. I could feel her loneliness and exile she was enduring. Amy is such a well-developed character that had me gripped from the start. After learning about her incident and the growing wall between her family and friends, I instantly found myself cheering for her, hoping justice would rise. The story takes a fun turn when the element of danger is thrown into the mix and Amy must fight through the twists and turns hurled at her.
I'll admit (and hopefully not spoiling much) there was a twist I didn't see coming. It was one of those moments where I was thinking yeah I know exactly where the author is going with this. Not the case and I was thrilled to be thrown off. Wasn't as typical as I'd thought. And then one more twist was tossed at the end that also had my head spinning.
Hands down, the character Amy was my girl. She's a smart and strong female character that I really admired. The MC brought encouragement and a beautiful display of survival. This is why I loved this book, these types of stories. Wish to read more books like this. Overall, can't go wrong here. Lots of action and suspense that keeps you interested. It was one of those fun reads where I found myself tearing through the chapters and not paying any mind to the time or percentage of reading progress. Totally immersive. Highly recommend.
While Amy is in a bad situation to begin with in her personal life and seems very sympathetic, I still had a hard time developing an emotional connection with her.
The author did a good job of putting the Main character in impossible situations but kept pointing out how this was an impossible situation and she would never get out of it.
The heroine and villains were all clever and created challenges for each other. There were enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. Especially at the end...but I won’t spoil that.
