The fascinating life of Starfleet’s celebrated captain, and Bajor’s Emissary of the Prophets, celebrating the 30th anniversary of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.

Benjamin Sisko tells the story of his career in Starfleet, and his life as a father and Bajor’s Emissary to the Prophets. Chart his rise through the ranks, his pioneering work designing the Defiant class, his critical role as ambassador and leader during the Dominion War, and his sacred standing as a religious leader of his adopted home.

Explore the hidden history of his childhood and early career in Starfleet, and the innermost thoughts of the man who made first contact with the wormhole aliens and opened safe passage to the Gamma Quadrant, and united Starfleet, Klingon and Romulan forces to defeat the Dominion. Discover Sisko’s personal take on his confidantes Lieutenant Dax and Major Kira Nerys, the enigmatic Garak, and his adversaries, Gul Dukat and Kai Winn, as well as his fatherly advice for his son Jake.

Passing on lessons from father to son, from his experiences with the Prophets to the writings of Benny Russell, Sisko’s story is a unique phenomenon in Starfleet and human history, told in the way only he can.

Editorial Reviews

Review

"A particular treat...Without a doubt, the very differently-spiced The Autobiography of Benjamin Sisko, a thoughtful valentine to the series, represents another high point in this expanded universe." - Reactor.com

“Ultimately, the book left me with a craving to start Deep Space Nine again. So in that respect alone, it is a success. But it’s deeper than that. I feel as though I have a fresh pair of eyes. A fresh appreciation for Sisko as a character and for Avery Brooks as a performer. It is often said that the best actors put a piece of themselves into their performances. Avery Brooks did that with Sisko. But I feel that Attico also put a piece of himself into the character through this book.”
TrekCentral.net

“All in all, this is an excellent book that provides a profound understanding of how Benjamin Sisko evolves into the distinguished figure from Star Trek lore. An amazing record of him, the novel gives us great insights into the evolution of this wonderful character we know and love from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, allowing readers to deepen appreciation for him even more.”
WarpFactorTrek

“The autobiography is an inspiring, at times gut-wrenching, look into the life of one of Starfleet’s best captains. Though bittersweet since no one has seen him since he left with the Bajoran prophets, the book will leave you feeling like, for the first time, you really know Benjamin Sisko. And will probably make you want to watch Deep Space Nine again with this new knowledge. And that’s a good thing.”

As a life-long Trekkie and feeling that DS9 is my fave Trek series, this book filled in so many gaps about my favorite Trek leader.

Benjamin Sisko’s layers and his full backstory was absolutely fantastic to read.

Thanks Derrick Tyler Attico for doin’ the dang thing!

This is one of the best Trek novels I have experienced. I am a big Trek fan. I started with TOS when a child and have now watched every episode of every Trek series multiple times. I have also watched each Trek movie multiple times. I probably not the biggest reader of Trek novels but I have read many over the years. Derek Tyler Attico fleshes out Benjamin Sisko into a real three-dimensional person. The strongest part of this book is exploring Sisko’s life before DS9. The author didn’t seem to want to put too much effort with rehashing the series and that is a good choice. The book shouldn’t try to be an adaptation of all seven seasons of DS9. The readers should already be familiar with those stories. This book perfectly explores Sisko's journey to becoming the person that we see in the series. I hope to see more from Derek Tyler Attico.

In my opinion, the best story in the Star Trek
universe is the story of Deep Space 9. Thank you for this autobiography.

I enjoyed this. I liked how it stayed true to him being a father in addition to and over everything else he might ever be.

I think the word caramel is a good description... There are others. Sorry, it stood out to me.

I love Star Trek DS9 history and that of Sisko. The backstory was enjoyable.

I hope there is a further adventures novel because we all want to know what happens next.

I also hope there is a companion piece in the voice of Jake. My favorite episode is “The Visitor” and that father/son dynamic. I would love Jake’s real story after he leaves DS9 and if his father will play a part in that future.

Interesting background of my favorite captain. Read it on vacation. Good read by the pool with a pina colada.

Derek is a rare gem of a science fiction author, especially for the Star Trek IP. At times, while I was reading the book I forgot I was reading a sci-fi novel and I was enjoying a life story of a character I’ve always respected, Sisko. I kept getting snapped back to the Star Trek universe as Derek would dabble in an Andorian here or Starfleet so-and-so there along with an amazing cast of characters. Time to rewatch DS9 with a newfound appreciation. Best book I’ve read all year and a tribute to great literature.

I really loved this book. The characters were well thought out and three dimensional. I felt seen reading Sisko's life. I tried to read it all at once. It was that good.

I loved this book. To me, it felt that Sisko was back. My favourite Captain relating a true backstory and not just a recount of key episodes. His views on various members of his crew and the enigmatic Garak warmed my heart. I'll be ready this again and again. An excellent "editing" job by Derek Tyler Attico. More please. DS9 just doesn't get enough love.
