Best-selling author Marty Machowski takes young readers on an exciting biblical voyage to discover the treasure of God’s love revealed in Luke’s letters to Theophilus—Luke and Acts.

In the tradition of his well-loved bestsellers The Ology and WonderFull, Machowski weaves a study of the Bible with a fictional story. The Treasure follows the adventures of Mira and Theos who discover a sea captain’s personal journal which offers clues to a hidden treasure. They can only solve the riddle of the treasure by studying two ancient scrolls, the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. Young readers will journey with the siblings as they solve their puzzle and discover the captain’s treasure—Christ!

While these New Testament books are often thought of as two separate books telling different stories, they are really two halves of one greater story recorded by Luke. Through Luke’s retelling of Jesus’s work on earth and the Spirit’s work in growing the church, we see the Father’s love on full display. The Treasure will help children grow in their knowledge and love of God.

  • Vivid, full-color illustrations by Flavia Sorrentino
  • Written for elementary age and includes a study guide that can also be used with older children
  • Encourages families to study the Bible together and develop regular family devotions

Marty Machowski serves as both the Executive Pastor and Family Pastor at Covenant Fellowship Church in Glen Mills, Pennsylvania, where he has served on the pastoral staff for over 30 years. He is the author of The Ology, a systematic theology for children, Long Story Short, Ten-Minute Devotions to Draw Your Family to God, The Gospel Story Sunday School Curriculum and the companion Gospel Story Children's Bible. Marty enjoys writing "study fiction," a genre he developed that combines Bible study with engaging fiction. Dragon Seed, a novel for teens, and Prepare Him Room, an Advent devotional for families combine these two elements. He and his wife Lois and their six children reside in West Chester Pennsylvania area. Marty's other books include Wise Up, Listen Up, Don't Blame the Mud, God Made Boys and Girls, Leading Your Children to Christ, Teaching Your Children About Money, and Parenting First Aid.

Marty recently became the proud grandfather of Hosanna Rose Mahalik. With the addition of Hosanna, his third grandchild, Marty’s desire to share the gospel with the next generation was freshly invigorated. Currently, Marty has eight additional books in the works to be published, all of which look to equip parents to share the gospel with their children.

A treasure hunt for the whole family!
> a treasure hunt for the whole family!> seamlessly weaves a modern story (two kids in Greece who discover old scrolls) with an ancient one (which their discovery tells) while journeying toward the treasure> focuses on Acts & Luke, but effectively paints the plenary view of the Bible–how all parts connect and nothing is left to chance> wonderful illustrations keep the readers’ interest engaged(note: one page depicts a girl in a one-piece swimsuit)> faithful to ScriptureType: family devotional/Bible studyAges: 4-10**I say these ages very loosely. It can be enjoyed by and impactful for all ages! Plus, there is a thoughtful “Bible Study for Older Children” that can facilitate excellent further discussion.Have you have read Machowski’s “The Ology”? You'll be pleased to hear that this is equally well-written!If your family has never had devotions together (or if you’re looking for something new), I can happily suggest The Treasure. It is undated, so it can be started any time. Each entry is short, so you can even do more than one in a sitting if inclined. One of the best parts is how well Scripture is woven in with relevancy. Your family will learn to apply Scripture to real life and be forever benefited.Thank you, New Growth Press, Marty, and Flavia for giving our children priceless treasures.

I always get excited, for a good source that I can use to teach my kid about God and his work , because you can not love God if you don’t know anything about him

I have the first book, The Ology, & I loved going through it with my daughter. This one is just as beautiful. I can't wait to incorporate it into our homeschool. It's a beautifully written book, just like the first one.

The cover and binding is different from the previous two books. There is substantial give and flex on the edge of the spine where the cover meets the bound pages. The paper here is going to rip under the normal stress of using it and putting it on a shelf between other books. I don't like spending this much on a book and then knowing its not going to last because of construction. I preferred the previous binding and cover from the previous two books.

My family loves Marty Machowski’s children’s books! They are rich in theology, eye-catching, and engaging. The illustrations are beautiful and vividly done. The author weaves a fictional story with a biblical one, taking readers on a journey with siblings Theos and Mira. When they find a jar with a scroll inside featuring letters from a sea captain, they have to follow his clues to find a hidden treasure. The story focuses on the books of Luke and Acts in the Bible. My oldest child is 6 and enjoyed having this read to him during our family devotional time, but I can see this being a wonderful resource for older, more independent readers as well. There’s even a study section in the back to connect Luke and Acts with the Old Testament.

Thank you to the author and New Growth Press for my copy.

What child doesn't love an exciting treasure hunt? Mira and Theos discover a sea captain's journal in this fantastic children's story that shares clues to find the hidden treasure. They finally find the ultimate treasure using the ancient scrolls of the Gospel of Luke and the Book of Acts. The captivating illustrations and the short devotions allow kids and their parents to read a retelling story of Jesus and His new church. Each story ends with a riddle for the children to solve that will lead them to the greatest treasure of all - Jesus! I highly recommend this excellent, theologically informative, engaging, fun, big book!

Part story, part Bible reading plan, and part devotion. This book takes you through the books of Luke and Acts to discover the "Ancient Stories Ever New About Jesus and His Church."

Add this to your family's collection and enjoy as part of your family discipleship time.

Though it may be best for 8-12 year olds for independent reader, it's still appropriate for 5+ to listen.

We're on our first read through of this book. The content is good, the production is poor. The binding is already separated and needing repair.
