I know full-well how difficult it is to find qualified Teachers of any martial art, no matter what it is. Many teach, but few know the true art they disseminate. I do not know if Mr. Case is a master of Tongbeiquan or if he is not, and I also come from an ancient Xingyiquan lineage and therefore am not qualified to make any certain judgments about any martial art beyond what my own Teacher taught me. However, the thoroughness of Mr. Case's treatise - or exposition - of Tongbeiquan indicates qualified knowledgeable, and that is a treasure to find.
This is a warrior's handbook rather than a scholarly dissertation on history, lineages, and tradition. Such is its strength while the lack of said histories, lineages and so forth is also, in my view, its only weakness. I am a scholar of martial arts as much as an artist and i would have enjoyed reading about Tongbeiquan's history and development.
This book has a great deal of exercises, which, in essence, is what martial art largely is. I very much recommend it.
