This is really a complex book with lots of interesting angles and action. Fane is a hellhound bound in servitude to a Queen of the underworld when she chooses him to be alpha of her hellhound pack. You start off wondering how your going to like this guy because he pretty much detests humans and uses them to feed his queen, but the story didn't detail that much. He's very protective of his pack and especially his sister, Roxana. So when a female hellhound name Stephania who is a hunter shows up out of the blue and claims to be a member of his pack, Fane's suspicious. She claims the queen sent her on a special mission which is where she's been for the last 55 years, but Fane is not getting the whole story from her and he doesn't like it. He sees potential in her though and makes her lead hunter. But Stephania has an uphill battle to fight to be accepted by the pack.
There is something Fane finds intriguing about Stephania, but he doesn't want to admit it to himself. There is a lot of pull and tug between the two, attraction and mistrust. But you do see the softer side of Fane come out with Stephania who compliments him quite well and she challenges him too.
I liked the romance element very much as well as all the internal and external challenges of the two main characters. I love PNR and this book did not disappoint. I do think the book could stand a good edit, but the few errors definitely did not distract from the story itself.

I’ve read several parts in this series now and what I really love is that each time you get something unique. The heroes are all so different from one another. These are not cookie-cutter men. Fane is something of an anti-hero in many ways, yet there is something about him… His rough edges are drawn in such a way that you can see falling on your knees in front of him and begging to be cut with them. I love the way he heals… so sexy. There is a lot going on this story, which is another thing I love about these books. There is more to them than just romance, a lot more. We have betrayal, intrigue, and some real stakes that raise the tension between the sheets and pages. It you are looking for an intense PNR with teeth you can’t go wrong with this book. As with the other parts I’ve read, you can read this as a standalone book perfectly.

This book is very complicated in the beginning. I also had a hard time connecting with the main character, Fane, because he spends quite a bit of time telling me how much I’m not going to like him. It took me longer to read than I would have liked because I struggled with a few bits. There is quite a bit of repetition in the book between the chapters, so it dragged a little bit for me.

Overall, not a bad story. If you can hang in there through the complexity, it has a good tension between Fane and Stephania.

quite unexpected plot. A hard one to put down. The interaction with the queen...well.

This is an unusual book as you’re looking through the eyes of Fane a young hellhound raised on the periphery of the pack with his sister Roxana. At the start, the reader gets an insight into the hellhound pack and the struggle for status and dominance. When their mother dies, the Queen sees potential in Fane and trains him to be a successful Alpha. Both brother and sister learn the skills and acquire abilities in preparation for going topside and into the human world. Once he becomes an Alpha, his loyalty is entirely to his queen, and with that, he is tasked with the destruction of the Lupie pack. Fane takes on the traits of a motorbike loving geek, interested in computers and electronics. Likewise, Roxana hides her beauty under baggy clothes and enjoys fixing bikes. Then once above ground, a mysterious visitor Stephania appears and claims to be a previous member of the pack. Fane is suspicious as she could have been turned by another pack but also feels attraction.
This book is an interesting struggle with one's own pack, other packs and humans. At first, I was confused but so glad I persevered as the story developed into a page-turning adventure. I enjoyed being in such a different world and seeing things from another perspective. Those who enjoyed the ‘Twilight’ series may also enjoy this one.

This is really a different book with a lot of interesting characters. Fane is a hellhound bound to serve a Queen of the underworld when she chooses him to be alpha of her pack. Fane takes his duties as an alpha so seriously, he’s protective to his pack and his sister Rexona. The story becomes more interesting when Stephania returns to the pack and Fane finds himself intrigued by her. He tries to hide his attraction to her but a romance develops between them. Those who enjoy paranormal books will enjoy this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed Fane, body and soul

The characters are great, the conflict between them made the book alive and Fane more caring than he wants anyone to know about.
With Fane the Hellhound Alpha, his concern and protection is for his pack.
Fane and Stefania’s relationship is rocky, even though you hope there is a silver lining for them.
As for his relationship with his sister Roxana, he is the type of brother who would and does do anything to protect her. I enjoyed the book and its storyline, cannot wait for more.

I read this book out of order in the series, but that didn't make one bit of difference to how much I enjoyed it. The writing is fast paced and snappy and keeps you turning the pages. The link to ancient legends is well done and interesting while the characters really grow on you as they grow into themselves. Loved Fane. his strength shines through! The author definitely has a way with words and I'll be keeping up with this series for as long as it lasts!
