The Cemetery Club (Darcy & Flora Cozy Mystery Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.5 4.5 out of 5 stars 162 ratings

Goshen Cemetery lay quiet and peaceful under a benevolent spring sky. Darcy Campbell and her mother, Flora Tucker, had no inkling that in a few moments, the scene would change and they would face a horror on the ground and a threat from above, beyond their imaginations.

If you like Amateur Sleuth stories, Cozy Mystery tales, or stories with Women Sleuths, you'll love this one!

Becoming entangled in a centuries-old legend, being targeted by a group of ruthless men, and
discovering a long-lost love were not in Darcy's plans when she returned to her birth place, Levi, Oklahoma. She merely wanted to soak up the peace of her mother's home and try to heal the wounds left from her husband's death. Fate, however, had other plans for Darcy and Flora.

Volume 1 of the Darcy & Flora cozy mystery series.

Review

Great Story Line by Carol Knapper I've read Cemetery Club twice and enjoyed both readings. A good author, in my estimation gripes the reader's attention on the first page and the authors did that with this book. I couldn't put the book down until I read it all. That's a good book.

From the Author

The Cemetery Club is the first in the Darcy and Flora cozy mystery series. It was a joint writing effort with co-author Barbara Burgess. Set in Levi, Oklahoma, the book introduces readers to Darcy Campbell, investigative reporter and her mother, Flora Tucker. Darcy returns to her hometown to find the comfort she needs after the death of her husband. The appearance of an old flame and a beguiling ancient mystery plunge her into remembered romance as well as danger as she uncovers some very old secrets. This book is special to me, not only because it is the first in a series, but  because I wove into the plot some of the places and stories that were familiar to me as I grew up.

I had the privilege to get a copy of the Audio Book to listen to and review and wanted to add this to my review of the book. The flow and how you feel like you are right there with Flora and Darcy telling you their story. I get so caught up in it I feel like I am experiencing it with them. The actor reading has captured the essence of Darcy and Flora and her inflection and her emotion as she reads draws you in. Whether you are listening or reading this book for yourself you will enjoy it. Don't miss out make sure you get this book and series
The Cemetery Club (Darcy and Flora Cozy Mystery) by Blanche Day Manos & Barbara Burgess is a great cozy mystery that mixes faith, mystery and family along with suspense that leaves you on the edge of your seat and wanting more.

Darcy has come home to her mother’s after the death of her husband. When her mother Flora along with Darcy find the body of Flora’s good friend Ben at the cemetery then things get really interesting and dangerous for Darcy and Flora. Can they find out why and who killed Ben before more people are killed or the killer succeeds in killing them?

Darcy and Flora remind me of my daughter and me. We have a special bond and it seems we can always find ways to make things interesting. I think I could feel right at home sitting in their kitchen sharing stories while drinking coffee. That is part of the charm of this book, being able to feel like you know them and could be right in the middle of this mystery helping them solve it as well as getting in trouble right along with them. I like that the book keeps you guessing. It is one of those books that you don’t want to put down but then when you get to the end you wish there was more. It has just the right mix of suspense, faith and family. I give this book 5 stars and would highly recommend it to others.

I think one of my favorite quotes from the book is, pg. 38 “Trust God, Darcy. He knows the end from the beginning.” This is a very comforting thought. And then another favorite was “To her way of thinking, in all times of stress, coffee helped.” Pg. 48. I so agree!

I loved this book. I think that anyone who likes a good mystery, with twists and turns will want to read this book. I can’t wait to read the other two in the series.

This book is well worth the time to read it. Make sure you have enough time to read because you won’t want to put it down.

GRAB A CUP OF COFFEE OR TEA, SOME CHOCOLATE, A GOOD BOOK AND KEEP ON READING!

It was interesting to go back to the first book in the series to get the full background on this fascinating mother and daughter team of sleuths. Since we started with books two and three in the series and a different narrator, we had a bit of a hard time with the narration done in this version that didn't seem to fit the book or characters quite as well as the other narrator did. She was also very hard to hear when she attempted to do low register men's voices.
The story itself was excellent and just as full of plot twists and turns as the other two we listened to. There is one glaring plot hole featuring a certain lantern left burning in a place no one else had been in for awhile. Other than that this was a great start to a fascinating cozy mystery series and I highly recommend it.

The Cemetery Club: Small-town Levi, Oklahoma, looks deceptively calm but all is not as it seems. Darcy Campbell and her mother Flora Tucker find themselves neck-deep in an ancient secret of Cherokee gold. The death of Flora's old friend Ben is only the beginning of the mystery. Along the way, Darcy finds she has not forgotten her first love, sheriff Grant Hendley. This first of the Darcy and Flora series kept me on the edge of my chair from start to finish. I liked the part the owl played in the story.

I loved this book! "The Cemetery Club" by Blanche Day Manos is the first book in her Darcy and Flora cozy mystery series and I highly recommend it. The main characters were well-developed and likeable, so much so that I held my breath when the author placed them in danger. For me, the characters come first and the plot comes second. But, in this novel, the unique setting, the cast of characters and the plot combined to keep me turning the pages.

This is a cozy mystery, well written, good character development and a satisfying read. Then you get to the chase scene and whoa, what happened to the cozy part. That is the misconception many readers have of cozy mysteries. Well, think again. This is a suspenseful, exciting story, filled with baffling murders. I am planning to read the other books in this series. I recommend you try them.

This is the first of the three series and it's really interesting. Darcy and her mom, Flora, are quite a pair. However, in the later stories, Flora is stereotypically aged for someone only in her 60s. Not cool especially considering the writers are older gals. Hmm.

I really enjoyed the beginning of this book. It started off with a bang and I couldn't wait to turn the page, but it sizzled out in the middle of book. I wasn't able to finish the book as soon as I normally do because it became boring, which disappointed me because it started off just the way I like them to with the murder first :)

The Cemetery Club is Christian Mystery at its best! A mother and daughter, both widows, make a gruesome discovery of a body buried in a cemetery--under a pile of brush! They recognize the deceased and know many of the suspects in the small town of Levy, Oklahoma. They conduct their own search for the killer, enduring narrow escapes, taking wrong turns, and finding a secret door before solving the case. It's a page-turner.

5.0 out of 5 stars I have read all three but especially enjoyed this one

This is the first of the Manos/Burgess mystery series. I have read all three but especially enjoyed this one. It is a good setting for the others in the series. We are introduced to the main characters - a mother and daughter. Both are widows but find strength from each other. The writing is excellent and fast paced. Darcy and her mother find a dead body in the cemetery. Why would someone murder Flora's neighbor? There are many twists and turns and we find that people's lives are more complicated than what they seem. An excellent read. You will not put it down until you are finished. I recommend all three books.

I felt that this mystery was a sort of rough diamond...it needed a bit of polish. There were many parts that I loved, and I have to admit that the beginning of the story made me want to continue reading. It had a great feeling of excitement that sort of died down.

And I really wished that there was more about the "Cemetery Club" as the name is really what had drawn me to the book. I did feel a bit let down. Also, I felt that the story had brought up a few things that were not taken care of properly--or maybe just not to to my satisfaction.

Still, I would have to say I would probably read another book in the series as I found the character interesting and I would like to see if the continuing books are polished up. I would rate this mystery with 3.75 stars.
