The Honeymooner (PARADISE BAY SERIES Book 1) Kindle Edition

4.4 4.4 out of 5 stars 3,415 ratings

He’s tall, dark, and built. The kind of man whose abs have abs. And I only want one thing from him—to forget the last twenty-four hours. Forever.

It was supposed to be the best day of my life. The sun was shining. The church was packed. I was dressed in white and ready to marry my steady-as-a-rock fiancé.

There was just one big, fat problem—he didn’t show up.So I did the only thing a girl can do under the circumstances—escape to the Caribbean for our honeymoon.

Alone.

Enter Harrison Banks.

Somehow he brings out a side of me I didn’t know existed—a carefree adrenaline junkie. After a few days together, Harrison’s got me wondering if the life I always wanted was meant for some other girl.

I should go back to my safe, comfortable life, right?

That would be the sensible thing to do.

I can’t risk everything to live out some tropical fantasy with a guy I’ve just met, even if he is the only man who’s ever made me feel truly alive…

The Honeymooner is a laugh-out-loud, opposites attract romance about a heroine who’s used to staying inside her comfort zone and a hero who knows exactly how hard to push. It’ll have you laughing, swooning, and sipping fruity blender drinks.

What a delightfully fun romantic comedy! I love the unique start to the book, showing maps to made-up places and an epistolary beginning to the book. Through these letters and emails, we clearly learn a bit of the backstory of the hero and the heroine. Even with that, though, the author still did, in the beginning chapters that introduced them both, dump a little bit too much information all at once instead of letting information flow more naturally in the book. These characters have incredible backstories, but I like to see characters’ histories show up more organically rather than breaking up the flow of the narrative in a big chunk or two. The heroine’s world was tipped on its ear when her affianced leaves her waiting at the altar, breaking it off via text. She takes the honeymoon anyway, hoping to get the owner--whom she had written to previously in those early letters and emails--to take her company's offer to buy out his nearly bankrupt resort. What she experiences when she goes to this resort is nothing she could have imagined but something that has the potential to change her life if she is willing to let go of the rigid control that she has had over her life since her mother abandoned her to her grandparents when she was a child. What path will she choose? I thought both the characters were well drawn. There were some laugh-out-loud moments. And even though I wouldn't say I liked the backstory dumped into the text, it did really inform who they were as characters. Their actions reactions made sense given their histories. All in all, it is a well-done book.

I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.

I was in the mood for a beachy read and this book kept showing up on my amazon feed, so I thought I’d give it a try. Being the first book I’ve read from the author I’ll admit I was a little nervous because I didn’t know if I’d enjoy it or connect with the characters. Luckily, I was pleasantly surprised and found this to be a charming and funny novel. The characters were wonderful; character growth is important in novels like these ones, and seeing Libby go from a workaholic, regimented woman to a carefree one who lets her heart determine her paths in life was fantastic. It also helped that we meet the swoony hero who steals her heart as well as the readers!

Another important thing with this novel is the authors writing. She truly transported me to the tropical island of Paradise Bay with her vivid imagination and I could practically feel the sun on my skin as I was reading. I love an author who can write a setting in a way that readers can imagine it being real and that’s exactly what Melanie Summers did with this book.

If you’re looking for a funny, lighthearted read with wonderful characters and a plot thick with love and excitement then this is a great summer read for you. I’m excited to read more books by this new to me author!

Ultimately I chose a 5 stars for my rating, but I struggled between 4 and 5.

The book was fine. Well written. Cute story. Kept me entertained and engaged for the most part. Their "downfall" was kinda predictable and easily overcome. So that was all ok. But it lacked spice. I enjoy the fun passionate scenes and this book definitely lacks that! I'm not sure if it's YA or what, but it's quite boring and G rated in that respect. I actually feel like I've read YA books with more action.

So the side of me that wants spice, says it's a 4. But the practical side says the rest of it and I do want to see what happens next. So, it's a 5. Well. Maybe a 4.5 rounded up. But not something I would ever re-read either.

The characters in this book are so much fun to meet and quite entertaining. Summers hits another grand slam with a fantastic story.

Well written funny story with many lovable characters. I had to reread thinking I skipped over a few pages, because there is only alluded “activity”. Despite that, it is a worth read for sure! It does NOT disappoint!!

This was my 1st Melanie Summers book. It was a funny, sweet HEA story. I enjoyed it and the characters. Harrison couldn't have been any sweeter & Libby was adorably quirky & funny.

Harrison Banks is just the most wonderful boss ever. The reason Libby embarks on her honeymoon alone not so much. This is a great beach weekend read because you will not want to stop reading.

Yes, it's absolutely right... I did need some comedy! I just returned an absolutely horrible book and clicked on this title recommended by Amazon. This book is light and fun, witty and charming, well written with well developed characters, and funny. Did I say funny? Loads of fun! I will definitely check out more books in this series.

Another perfect read! I read book 4 first, and just had to go back to the start. At first I thought I was going to hate Libby, but that's kind of the point.

Libby in Paradise is the polar opposite of Libby at home. Her interactions with Harrison were hot, and hilarious, and I LOVED their chemistry. I also loved how open Harrison was, even from the start. Cannot wait to read the next book in this series!

While I enjoy reading this books , some funny moments here and there - I was quite impatient following Libby denial phase stretching long after the half of booked
After that all went fast , the make up with Harrison as well the conflict
I wish the part where Libby in denial could be shorten and give both main character a proper epilogue with the resort running properly 2 or three kids around them
Well don’t blame me, I’m just hopelessly romantic that’s why I’m reading romance

But all in all it’s a great read and entertaining
