Editorial Reviews
From the Back Cover
Herman Mendoza built his kingdom in Queens, New York. He made a fortune selling cocaine with his brothers up and down the Eastern Seaboard. He had apartments around the city for his mistresses and a home in the Poconos for his beautiful nuclear family. But when Herman and his brothers were busted in a large-scale crackdown, his kingdom crumbled. Ready to kill himself rather than live behind bars, Herman instead came face-to-face with the all-consuming love of God. He would never be the same.
Today, Herman shares his story at every opportunity, knowing that it may play a part in someone else's journey into a relationship with Jesus. An engaging and fast-paced read, Shifting Shadows offers hope to those in despair, and shows all of us the lengths to which God will go to bring a troubled soul home.
"In a culture riddled with addictions, this is an uplifting story worthy of our attention."--CANDY MARBALLI, president and CEO of the Prayer Covenant
"This memoir crosses all cultures and shows how God's grace can rescue a lost soul regardless of how hard he or she hits rock bottom."--JOEL FREEMAN, PhD, director and producer of Return to Glory; former NBA chaplain

I was completely drawn in after the first paragraph. The book is written in a style that allows you to completely relate to Herman’s choices, especially if his walk in any way mirrors your own.
You’ve got to read this.
By the end of the book, you will love this guy and his wife for their ability to rise up from the rubble and move into a life for God. What a beautiful story of redemption. Please buy this today and support the Mendoza family in their ministry. This is Gods war on Drugs!!
I followed all the twists and turns in this story and really felt the struggles and emotions of the main characters. By chapter 32, I began to feel the calm the characters began to experience.
A relevant story that shows us all things are possible when we desire.
When reading a Christian biography/testimony, there are a couple of things I look to find. First is a detailed explanation of the gospel message, so that unbelievers who may be encouraged by this testimony pick up the book may understand God’s essential message of salvation. The second is an abundance of Scripture references. In both cases, the book lacks. While there are a few verses sprinkled in, they were rare, and the author at times over spiritualizes certain aspects.
As a story, though, the book is compelling. Most readers will not be overwhelmed by a master of words or an artistic manner of storytelling. Nevertheless, I enjoyed merely reading about one man’s experiences through his own words. Even more, the author demonstrates an evident (and significant) change in his life. The result is an incredible testimony of God’s transformation, God’s grace, and God’s work in the lives of people.
I suspect the book may leave some readers with questions (such as about the author’s methods of ministry). Yet, the areas that one might disagree over are so rarely mentioned that the real focus of this book is simply the story of Herman Mendoza. I wouldn’t spend much time reading through this, as there are more valuable biographies to read. Yet, for something simple in which one wants to rejoice at God’s work, the time spent reading this book is minimal (I read the entire text in just a couple of hours).
Disclaimer: I received a review copy of this book from the publisher. However, my review was not influenced in any way by the author, publisher, or any other person associated with the book.
It is inspiring for young and old, all races and backgrounds and especially for someone incarcerated or dealing with getting out.
