If you read business strategy books don’t pass up the chance to read this classic . It’s often the obvious items done well that can lead to the best strategies . Having real strategic thinkers in your organization is better than thinkers that believe they are strategic. This book will help identify both and improve the readers effectiveness.

3.0 out of 5 stars A comprehensive, holistic view of strategic thinking

The six disciplines of strategic thinking are split into two abilities: The ability to recognize and prioritize with 1) Pattern recognition, 2) System analysis, and 3) Mental agility – and The ability to mobilize concerning 4) Structured problem solving, 4) Visioning and 6) Political savvy.

Several different ideas have been picked and fit together into a practical read, which I considered a bit oversimplified. All six chapters summarize and refer to other publications which are well-known. However, it is super helpful for people not dealing with strategic thinking regularly. What I missed were recommendations on how to apply the theories with teams and to align teams.
