Jennifer Arrington started her first novel as a 9-year-old, writing in messy cursive, filling pages of an empty notebook. Her book was set in a boarding school for girls and included a schematic of the school, the dorms, the grounds, and of course, the netball courts.

Given that Jennifer has lived in four countries and five states within the United States, that manuscript is long gone. However, writing and journaling have always been her own personal therapy, and reading a reason to “get everything done” so she can focus on her TBR pile.

During her stay-at-home mom years, Jennifer used nap times to pen her first novel, Trusting for Tomorrow, inspired by her experiences with celiac disease. Ten years later, while recovering from multiple surgeries after recurrent breast cancer, she completed The Counting Tree, incorporating parts of her own breast cancer experiences into the story.

Jennifer self-publishes and spends her days on marketing, networking, and writing. She is currently working on a biography and a middle grade children’s adventure series. Although the styles and genres are far apart, Jennifer maintains that bouncing between the two keeps her brain fresh and helps maximize her writing time.

With a master’s degree in nutrition from Texas A&M University, Jennifer spent much of her career as a high school chemistry teacher and still tutors chemistry via Zoom. A self-proclaimed bibliophile, she also loves paddle boarding, snorkeling, and beach walking. Always reading, she often enjoys three concurrent books: an e-book, an audiobook, and a paper copy. That, she maintains, ensures a book is always on hand!

"The Counting Tree" by Jennifer Arrington is a faith filled story of Heidi, an American woman who travels to 1980's South Africa and Johannes, a man who works at the Christian Camp she is going to serve at. The book touches on issues of the Apartheid there and attitudes of various people. It talks about good ways to reach youth that are struggling with various issues in their lives.
The book later goes to the United States and through interactions with her niece and nephew who are half black, the book touches on some of the issues of race in the United States around the year 2001.
It is a very well written book and is definitely a Christian fiction read. For people looking for a Christian fiction book set in another time and country, this is one to pick up.

I saw this book because the author asked about cover design for book 2 on a FB page I am on. The cover was so beautiful I decided to check the book out. I first read the sample and immediatly downloaded the story. I was caught up in Johann and Heidi's story. I fell in love with them and the beauty of Sputh Africa through their eyes. Then the story took a turn and I cried with them. Holy Moly the story had a part 2 that caught me unaware. I loved this story about God's redeeming work. Being how God orchestrated what Darren would need years before. The struggle through cancer and heart break, choosing to forgive and move forward. Wow, the whole package was amazing and left me looking forward to the second book! I cannot wait to read more about John, Heidi and Jacob.
Amazing clean CF story.

I was so glad I picked up this book on Kindle Unlimited. The initial setting in South Africa really draws the reader in, and I could totally picture myself in that beautiful little 1987-era camp, as it was so aptly described by the author. I learned some new things about apartheid in this same time period, and how it affected day-to-day living in the country.

There are many twists and turns in the story that keep you wondering what will happen next, and you watch as the main characters grow through the challenges and misfortunes in life and learn what it means to depend on God's timing.

This book was an easy read and had so many reminders of God and his perfect plan for us! While instilling so many great lessons throughout, you still fell in love with all of the characters and were captivated by Heidi’s journey. I felt like the whole time I was just cheering for her. She deserved nothing but the best but life and circumstances kept getting in the way. She was such a positive person and really put into perspective how much we take for granted. I also loved hearing more about South Africa, a culture I know very little of! Would recommend for a feel good easy read! Perfect to read by the beach!

The Counting Tree is a beautiful story of love, loss, and forgiveness, but more than that it’s a story of God’s faithfulness. I was drawn into the story from the first pages and stayed up late and got up early to finish it. Heidi and Johann were characters that seemed real and people I wanted to know in real life.

The Counting Tree is a beautifully written love story exploring the complexities of trust and faith - the should I's or shouldn't I's we all face in life. Heidi and Johann must overcome hurdles and betrayals on their journey towards "Happily ever after". Lots of twists and turns that keep the pages turning. Read this book - and count your blessings every day!

I am so grateful for a book that kept me captivated and encouraged with each turn of the page. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters and their precious story. The book was so hard to put down. The only thing that made me put it down was the desire for it not to end! Read it, love it and never want to put it down!

"God is our ultimate Master Conductor, regardless of how people mess things up for us. He is ultimately in charge." These are paraphrased words, and the general theme, in this beautifully written novel by Jennifer Arrington. Her story portrays the power of a God who sees and orchestrates everything, for His good. A great read!

From the minute I met the main character, I was captivated by the story. Jennifer has an incredible way of writing about love and grief, roots and branches, displacement and home, faith and belief.

I liked this book primarily because it had a lot of depth and a strong faith element. The setting and how Heidi handled being in another culture also gave it that extra layer of interest. The complex relationships between people were portrayed with depth and sensitivity, though some storylines were gut punching! It had strong characters and a bit of a mystery. Reading this story is an emotional, inspiring and rewarding journey. Highly recommended!
