If no further changes are made, it will take 132 years to reach full gender parity across education, economic participation and opportunity, and political empowerment!

According to the World Economic Forum, the global gender gap has been closed by 68.1%, which is certainly a positive. But still, 132 years before we can see complete equality?

Let’s put this mind-blowing figure into perspective. This could mean that it will be your great-great-grandchildren who eventually earn the same income as their male colleagues and receive the same opportunities.

That is, however, if we don’t keep fighting for a change.

We know that women make phenomenal leaders because of greater capabilities in a wide range of skill sets. But there is still a giant wall stopping us from achieving our potential.

Male leaders are considered more autocratic, dominating, and assertive. They can be more influential and they are determined in the decisions they make. The real truth is, they are just better at being heard!

When women learn how to be heard, true leadership with positive social and economic results is seen. They can balance assertiveness with care, management with team empowerment, and create a workplace environment that is inclusive, safe, and productive.

The challenge for many female leaders isn’t their leadership skills, it’s finding their voice!

In this book packed with communication strategies for female leaders, you will discover:

  • How to become an empathetic, compassionate leader who is strong, respected, and inspirational
  • How to read the 7 universal microexpressions that provide some of the most accurate readings of emotions
  • 17 non-verbal cues that have a significant impact on our communication and how to read each
  • How to effectively interact with people who have different communication styles—even the aggressive coworker!
  • How to prepare to speak in different work situations so that you are confident from start to finish
  • The impact of technology on communication in the workplace and how to use this to your full advantage
  • 12 steps to developing your active listening skills—even when your mind is racing with responsibilities
  • The difference between mentors and sponsors and why you need both— and can be both!
  • How to be the conversation master at networking events and how to create your own events to set positive examples
  • How to resolve conflicts in the workplace without becoming the ‘agony aunt’ of the office
  • The dangers of microaggressions plus steps to create an action plan for zero-tolerance and a positive workplace culture

And much more.

Unfortunately, there is always going to be that person in the office who tries to bring you down and gaslight you into self-doubt. We aren’t yet completely free from coworkers who are biased toward women and other minorities.

It doesn’t mean that we have to tolerate it! With improved communication skills and confidence, you too can find your voice and speak against the unjust workplace and create a team bursting with healthy communication and diversity.

She's Meant to Speak is an important resource for people at the beginning or in the heart of their career, regardless of what that career is. Effective communication is so important to any occupation or daily life. If you don't effectively communication, it's so true that you won't be heard. Being concise and targeted with your communication can't be overstated. I've seen many senior executives ramble or fumble in their communication such that their audience rolls their eyes and sometimes chuckles. In contrast, good communicators vault up the corporate ladders if they concisely frame and deliver messages. I definitely recommend this book! It will be a guide to keep with you for a long time.

I kept thinking, "YES!" while reading this book. As women, we tend to worry too much about how we're perceived at work, and engage in behaviors that don't showcase/communicate our leadership skills. This book outlines some common sense approaches to improving communication in the workplace. I love the idea of taking a regular pulse on the toxicity of your team so you can mitigate it before it becomes the norm. I've had female bosses who feed the toxicity by trying to stay the only female in a position of power. We have to work harder to lift each other up and develop female leaders around us!!

What a fantastic and empowering resource! As a woman in a leadership role, I’m always looking for ways to overcome stereotypes and be the best leader I can be. This book does an excellent job highlighting the reality of women in leadership while providing practical advice on how to overcome obstacles or stand out in a male-dominated environment. The specific details on verbal and non-verbal communication are very enlightening and offered many opportunities to self reflect on my own approaches. I will definitely be revisiting this book! Highly recommend!

I found this book so refreshing and helpful! I just left a toxic workplace and wish I'd read this book earlier. It gives women insight and solutions to many workplace obstacles and challenges women face. I especially appreciated the wisdom to evaluate your workplace by her list every 8-12 weeks. Thank you to the author for recognizing the culture women enter, the prejudices and biases we often deal with and for providing answers and practical solutions. I highly recommend this book for any women in the workplace.

The author lays out very clearly the issues women face in the workplace - still. Sometimes you have to be strong AND assertive no matter what they'll think or say about you. If somebody claims your achievement, you have to firmly and gently correct them. However, as women, we owe it to our sisters to, in turn, be supportive of them. Toxicity comes from our own gender as well. Great treatment of a complicated issue. And btw, very powerful cover! Love it!

Imagine you’re a leader where your team respects and listens to you. You know how to assert yourself in your position at the office. No one takes credit for your work. And you are nicely assertive (not aggressive).
It all begins with improving your communications skills — and this book shows you how.

However, the person who is both a woman and a minority has added challenges.
To be a great female leader you need to express and voice your opinions which this book help you with so you can become a skilled communicator.
Things like: positive body language and active listening to stay focused and show empathy.

Bite-sized lessons throughout each chapter will help you analyze, practice, and improve your communication skills at a pace that is convenient for you.

The author cites Elizabeth Warren, a well-known US Senator, as an example of a woman who said it was not easy to rise to senator… and women who want power have to fight for it. We know this means fighting stereotypes and biases surrounding women in the workplace which some say will take 138 years to reach parity with men!
But if you follow the advice in this book, you will at least be part of the solution for yourself and other women to follow.
You will love this book if you liked Daring Greatly by Brené Brown; You Are a Badass by Jen Sincero or How to Win Friends and Influence People by Dale Carnegie.
