8th EDITION
=========
There have been many advances in the understanding of reproductive processes in humans since the 7th edition. For reasons including development of live imaging techniques. There's less reliance on extrapolation from other mammals to humans.
The author says there have been "truly spectacular" advances in medical research on reproduction.

There is a companion website "EssentialReproduction", which has all the diagrams from the book and clinical vignettes and MCQs.
DIAGRAMS
========
The diagrams are clear, the text is relevant and well explained.

======
This is a glossy book.
There are full culture diagrams, drawings and flowcharts throughout.
OVERWHELMING
============
Some people may be happier sticking to a general Obstetrics and gynecology textbook; it might be too difficult to wade through.
SUMMARIES
=========
There is a good summary of points at the end of each chapter. The subtitles usually offer a key point or interesting fact. The set-up is also clear.
ESSENTIALS?
=========
The book seems to go well beyond just essentials. On one hand, you're getting a lot for your money. On the other hand, it's very heavy going (through there are lots of subheadings and sections to break up the content.
