Exciting and intense story!

Exciting and intense story!
The Wolf was exciting and intense and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I thought the characters were fantastic and there was an excellent build as Lucan and Rio found their way together. I loved the twists and turns along the way, I was hooked the entire time.I loved Rio, she was tough and determined, and I loved her perseverance. I liked her and Lucan meeting and the instant connection they had. I found Lucan fascinating and liked every detail I learned about him but wished there would have been more of a backstory about his wolven side. I loved Rio figuring out what his true nature was and the hints along the way. I liked learning what Lucan was going through in the prison system and what he was up against. There were a lot of obstacles between them and I enjoyed the slow burn of them coming together.I liked the bonds the men in the prison camp had and how each character is so unique. I loved learning about Kane and found both Apex and Mayhem to be intriguing. I always enjoy how the author has several stories going on with multiple POVs and how they end up connecting. I loved Detective De La Cruz’s part in this and I liked getting more Vishous, though I thought he had a bit more focus than needed. There was some really great humor mixed into the intensity, drama, and passion and I enjoyed it all. This started strong and I was invested the entire time but there were several parts that were slow for me. Even though this is considered a standalone and there’s just enough information given to make it one, I highly suggest reading book one in the Prison Camp series, The Jackal, first. I am deep into the Black Dagger Brotherhood world and understanding the history when reading a new story really enriches it. While Rio and Lucan get their HEA in this, I was left with so many questions, leaving me excited for the next story. Overall, I thought this was awesome. Another great story in the Prison Camp series!

What a ride! I thoroughly enjoyed this second book in the BBD Prison Camp series. Luke was such a great character. He was a walking gray area. But such an interesting guy to read about.

********************************************** WARNING ********** I am going to mention plot points here, so be warned if you don't want to know..
**********************************************************************************************************
Am a huge fan of the Black Dagger Brotherhood world, so it's always a treat when a new book comes out. Love that the author includes members of the BDB in this new series. Butch, V, Rhage, Wrath, just to name a few. The main protagonists in this book are of course new to the world and the way their relationship starts and builds is fascinating. That the female protagonist is human makes this whole plot more intriguing. There is normally no path for an all human and vampire/wolven to an HEA. But is she something other that is yet not known? Perhaps the next book will delve into it?
The ending of this book perfectly set up what I expect will come in book 3. I know some readers hate it when a book's ending doesn't tie everything up neatly, but this is part of a series, so this is a fairly common practice, and it wasn't a cliffhanger (which I hate), just a jumping off point for the next part of Lucan and Rio's adventures.

I started this book in 2023 but didn't finish because I struggled with the story. I revisited the book last week and finally finished it today. Overall, it's not a bad story. It continues the b story that began with book 1 in this prison series, so I'm glad to know what's happened, but the character development was limited. I'm going to read the 3rd book, but if you're looking for something with depth and more than one ex scene, this isn't the book for you.

loved this book! I love JR Ward and all her series, BDB are the absolute best!
Reviewed in the United States on December 1, 2021
I have to be honest, many of the "other" books that JR Ward writes aren't my very favorites. They're good, but not what I'm typically expecting or love from her BDB books. BUT, I truly loved The Wolf and can't wait for more of Lucan and Rio. These two had so much character and were so interesting! Rio was definitely one of my favorite females ever and Lucan is so fascinating and I need more of him for sure. Part of my love for this book could be the fact that there was more BDB storyline than is typically in these periphery books. There was also some great closure to some folks that we haven't seen in a while. For Audio lovers, of course, as always Jim Frangione is THE narrator for anything BDB and JR Ward!!!

The title says it all— I own every single one of her books and I love her writing, but I would give my left arm for another book about Luke and Rio— honestly. Ended way too soon and I wasn’t ready for it. The passion and romance and savior complex is what I’m here for, but these characters have a great complexity that I really enjoy. Two thumbs way way up

I like all of JR Ward's books. I love reading about the Vampire society and now the Wolven society and I love how she has tied the two together.

These books are complex and there are so many twists and turns. It makes for a fascinating read.

I got the book today and finished it today. The only thing I can say bad about these books are that I read them too fast and then I have to wait and wait and wait.

I love all of the brothers but V is one of my most favs.

This book will not disappoint.

I'm torn on my rating for this book. Yes, it was classic Warden and I loved all the parts of it. But it really didn't feel like a Prison Camp book. I understand there's only been one other book, so how can I say what it does or doesn't feel like, but seriously, very little happened at the actual prison camp.

I really loved Rio, she's feisty and kick-butt and a great cop. And Lucan, well, he was swoony and yummy. We didn't get a whole lot of him in book 1, so it wasn't like I had preconceived notions for him, but he is all that and a bag of chips.

Honestly, this book really felt like it was the next book in the BDB world. It dealt heavily with V and his "issues" that Jane masterfully helps him with. It gave long time readers a healthy dose of a beloved character we have all been begging for more of and finally get, BUT none of this had anything to do with the Prison Camp. That aspect of this book was very diluted, and I kept clamoring for more of the action within the prison itself.

I shouted for joy at discovering a character I thought was lost in book 1 is in fact, alive, and I wanted SO much more of that storyline, but apparently, or should I say, hopefully - that story arc will come full circle in the next book or books? I wanted so badly to see a big "reunion" happen, but it didn't, at least yet.

I felt like a whole bunch of plot lines were left unfinished in this book, both prison camp and BDB related, so it will be interesting to see how the Warden moves forward with them.

I was left a little bereft at how abruptly this book ends. I guess there's what you'd call an HEA for Rio and Lucan? I'm not even sure, since the story stopped so suddenly. I just know I'm dying to see what's next in the third book.

Overall, I loved the story, I loved seeing so many beloved BDB characters, but I didn't feel like their appearances in this book contributed at all to the Prison Camp series. They really should have been in an upcoming BDB book, as the Warden is really a master at weaving all these side stories through the main couples book without taking away from their story. Weaving them all through this book really took away from Rio and Lucan and I felt like they were the side characters instead of the main couple. There's several loose ended questions I've written down that made no sense or added anything to this story, but perhaps those questions will be answered in the next book.

I'm super curious to see who is up next - will it be Apex, or Mayhem, or perhaps someone else altogether?

Finished THE WOLF by J.R. Ward. And I mean, what can I say!? It's J.R. Ward. Every bit as good, as the rest of the books in the BDB world, Ms. Ward hit another one out of the park. Can't wait for the next in the series!

This book had me jumping from super excited to hapy, i cries, got mad, love it when you can enjoy a good book.

As usual, the book is great, jumping some months from last one, a great deal of things are happening and i really hope the BDB can help all those prisoners who were sent to the camp, they all need justice and i would like to hear all of the stories of the vamps in there, they should also get compensated for all the time they were in the prison camp so they can start over. Just saying...

Rio is a human female, she is a an undercover cop working for a drug dealer named Mozart ---- the major supplier in Caldwell. Rio has worked. Her way up.to being one.of his top lieutenants but has not managed to get a face to.face meeting with Mozart yet. One.night her life take a drastic turn. She is supposed to be meeting with a new potential.supplier when she gets a phone call warning that her cover has been blown and her life is in danger. Lucan, is a Wolven/Vampire hybrid who has been imprisoned in the Vampire faces jail.since.The 80s when the prison was destroyed in the last book he wasn't able to.escape so.ended up.at the new facility with about five hundred other.prisoners. The new man in charge at the prison wants to keep.it business as usual and arrange for the sake of the drugs he has the prisoners processing. Lucas is his go between, sent out into.downtown Caldwell to find Mozart and make a deal with him. In return Lucan and his friends get to keep on living so good deal. On this cold dark night when Rio finally arrives at the meet Lucan is waiting for her but before a deal.can be struck a car appears and gunshots ring out aimed at Rio. This begins the second of the prison camp books, and the action doesn't let up.from that first meeting Rio is in deep trouble and Lucan can't stop.himself from trying to help, even though he is in no position to do anything he can't bring himself.to.walk away. There's no chance of them both surviving what is to come.but they will.both go down fighting. As very this a well written book with a few of the brotherhood showing up mainly for some light relief. My only complaint even though the book comes in at 380 pages it ends on a cliffhanger and we are going.to have to wait for book three to.find.out what comes next.
