-- Serious Reading book review, 1 August 2016
"The Potato Hack is written with great humour, and considering it's a whole book about essentially just eating potatoes you'll be surprised how entertaining it is and how much you will learn. I am a bit of a geek when it comes to nutrition so this book was right up my street!"
-- Chloe Archard, Paleo-Britain health Blog, 19 May 2016
"My face and mid section are noticeably leaner. I really didn't expect that to happen so quickly."
-- Rusty Moore from his Visual Impact Fitness blog, April 2016. Rusty Moore is the owner of Visual Impact Fitness where hecoaches runway models, bodybuilders, and personal trainers.
"...it is pretty good at what itis designed for, short term weight loss and improvements in the gutmicrobiome. I don't have a specific context you can use the potato hackin, but truthfully, you don't need one."
-- Christopher Walker from his TestShock blog, April 2016. Christopher Walker is the founder of TestShock. A programdesigned to be the most comprehensive resource on the web for naturaltestosterone enhancement information.
"Modern science shows that simple diets high in fiber create an intestinal microbiome that is highly diverse and stable. This diversity and stability is lacking in most people and leads to digestive complaints like gastroesophageal reflux disease, irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, and small intestinal bacterial overgrowths."
-- The Potato Grower's Magazine, 28 March 2016
"He lays out the painstakingly detailed science behind the magic contained in one of our most common staples, the potato, and the biological impact resistant starch can have on the body. Definitely worth the read to get the most comprehensive rundown on the topic."
-- Mark Sisson, author of The PrimalBlueprint and publisher of MarksDailyApple.com
"Sometimes the simplest approach is the best one. The Potato Hack isn't fancy, complicated, or expensive, but it's a powerful tool for weight loss."
-- Chris Kresser, Author of New YorkTimes best seller The Paleo Cure. Creator of top-ranked natural health website ChrisKresser.com. Co-director and President of California Center for Functional Medicine
"The Potato Hack has revived the forgotten knowledge that a few days of potato-only meals might just be the ticket to resetting a sticky metabolism, losing weight, and restoring a healthy gut biome.
-- Dave Asprey, founder of Bulletproof and author of New York Times bestseller The Bulletproof Diet.
"I would be hard pressed to find a better single food for a short-term period of calorie restriction, which is sometimes called a 'fast' nowadays and is showing promise for weight loss and improving health markers."
-- Angelo Coppola, host and producer of the Latest in Paleo Podcast and The Plant Paleo Diet, PlantPaleo.com
"...contrary to all sorts of 'dire warnings' from those who strictly advocate low-carb diets, most who tried it found lots of success. It lived up to the hype.

This is ridiculously easy for me and, as a woman who has not been able to lose any weight since going through menopause, I didn't think it was possible for me anymore as nothing else I tried had worked. I intend to do a hack each week until I reach my goal of 35 pounds (28.5 left to go). Then, I will keep an eye on my weight and simply do a hack whenever it starts to creep up again.
4/16/18 - Update - I have lost 10 lbs in 16 days and am beginning my 4th hack today. I regained 1.6 lbs over the weekend, but that doesn't concern me at all. I have noticed that there is always a small gain after being off the hack for 3-4 days, but I have been losing that after just one day back on the hack and then I go on to lose some more. It's amazing to me how easy it's been. I don't feel deprived and I am serious when I say that I am not sick of potatoes. I haven't even done all the variations that many other people do. I've kept it very simple: boil what I need for the hack, keep it refrigerated and microwave whatever I need for each meal, adding a little salt and pepper. One thing I tried for a bit of different flavor was to sprinkle malt vinegar on the potatoes (because I've always loved fish & chips with malt vinegar) and it's really good.
It's fun going through my closet and finding clothes that were too tight before now fitting. Also, I have never felt better. I feel great and in a good mood. I feel very calm about food in general and for the first time in a long time, I feel in control of the weight situation. I have 25 more pounds left to lose and I know that I will do it.
5/1/18 - Update - I've lost 14 lbs. in 4 weeks doing a hack each week and enjoying regular food Friday thru Sunday. It's so easy for me that I like hacking through the week days. Last week, I only hacked for 3 days and ate regular foods for 4, but only gained 1.4 lbs. over the 4 days. I lost it plus a little bit more after the first day of my potato hack. By tomorrow morning, I will have lost a total of 15 or more.
It continues to be easy for me and I wanted to point out something else that is fantastic about potato hacking. Tim Steele tells you in his book how anti-inflammatory potatoes are for your body. I was hopeful but skeptical that it would help me with the arthritis I have in my fingers. I have had to take Aleve once or twice a day every day to subdue the pain. I worried about the damage this could be doing to my liver and tried taking Rose Hips instead. The Rose Hips worked but I had to take 2 capsules 2-3 times a day to keep the pain at bay and that got a little pricey having to buy Rose Hips so frequently. 2 weeks ago, I ran out of Rose Hips. I planned to buy more but was busy and didn't get around to it. Then after a week had gone by, I realized that the pain in my fingers was simply gone. And I mean gone 24/7! It feels like a miracle to me--it truly does. And for this reason alone, I would do the potato hack for the rest of my life even if I never lost a pound from it. But, I am steadily losing weight as well as pain free.
Later this month, I am scheduled for my annual blood work & physical check up. I will let you know if things have improved from last year's.
Update: I am hoping this info will be helpful to people with celiac/lectin issues, who stay away from potatoes. Reading parts of the book I missed. People who are celiac or have trouble with lectins CAN eat potoates. Just remove the skin. What people do not understand is that wheat IS loaded with lectins. I kept having serious attacks even after stopping wheat. LECTINS were the monsters that kept putting me in the hospital. I have potatoes everyday, even if not doing a hack. You just have to remove the skin where the great majority of the lectins are lurking.
I have discovered, painfully, the things I cannot have, 14 cherries put me in the hospital, because the lectins are in the peelings and seeds. Who peels cherries? Also, some lectins can be carefully eaten in a very small amount. I have been able to get away with a small romaine lettuce salad, a big one put me in the hospital though. Often having other things with it to help dilute/camoflauge the lectins helps you, but know it has to be small amounts.
My husband can eat lectins all day long. Cherry tomatoes are mostly skin and seeds, another hospital trip for me. Just be careful, put again, I steam my potatoes, refrigerate, and remove peelings before eating. No problems, and trust me, after 25+ excruciating trips to the hospital, I would know and am careful.
Reading another book on lectins and it says the resistent starch is higher if you roast them instead of steam them. I am trying to find in the book where Tim addresses that. If you remember or know, please let me know what page it is on. I thought it was better to steam them. I know it is for keeping the nutrients.

I knew from freetheanimal about the potatoe hack and always thought it to be just another fad.
But when I couldnt get over the plateau and was kind of getting desperate I gave this a go.
And for what it did for me was almost wondrous, it broke my plateau and I seriously lost 2kg at my first attempt, doing the hack for just three days.
From this loss an honest kilo was gone for good after the following refeed days and it still is - two months after.
As every serious dieter knows most rapid weightloss is water and is regained when the body sugar depots fill up again but nevertheless this amount is amazing.
But to stay honest, I also find it difficult. On the third day I start to dream about food and prefer to leave the table when the family has a real meal. In addition I need to almost constantly have potatoes with me as on my second potatoe week it happened I got hypoglycaemic when I didnt have enough of them to really stuff myself at work.
So, its brilliant for a few days, I get some serious weightloss accomplished which is well worth the suffering. But I could never do it like the magician Penn who did this for months.
I lost 20kg on it before and then abandoned it as "unsustainable" but the beauty of this book it to show you a way of introducing the hack into your lifestyle and normal life forever.
So 4 days in and 4 kilograms down - I'm back on it but in a lifetime manner. And unlike other diets - my tummy is full every day.
Try this, if it suits your body as it does mine you won't regret it. I can't believe how quickly this has had an effect on me and only wish I'd found it twenty years ago!
