So far so good
It work as advertised and I have it hooked up to a old Mitsubishi 55 inch WS 55315 that is capable of up to 1080I resolution. I couldn't justify buying a new tv when this one was still working. As you can see from the pictures you can plug in any HDMI device such as a HDMI Blu ray or a fire stick. Only thing I cant adjust the picture position on that model tv. Please note do not skimp in the composite cables. Get good quality cables. Great product would recommend.

I bought this converter for both it's conversion ability (HDMI to component), as well as it's ability to scale to many different resolutions. This was bought in an attempt to connect an Xbox One to an old school Mitsubishi rear projection TV (WS-55315) that would only except 480P or 1080i. If you don't know, the original Xbox One only outputs 480P (not recommended), 720P, or 1080P. While there are some overscan issues in certain games (very minor cutoff of the image on all four corners) which is totally the TVs fault, as this old school TV does not have the ability like newer models to turn off overscan, the system is still very playable. With the Xbox One set to output 720P, and the converter box scaling to 1080i, this box performs flawlessly, giving me a very crisp and clear HD image that makes the Xbox One look amazing even on this old TV. I have played many hours so far, and this box has never glitched, gotten hot, or given me any other issues thus far (only time will tell about it's longevity though). I have the sound broken out to my stereo receiver as well, and the sound quality is very good also. Here is the absolute best part though, and the part i'm sure all gamers are hoping I answer. Does it have lag? The answer to that question is none whatsoever, or at least none that my son and I can notice at all. The controller input experience feels no different to the experience I had with my Xbox 360 (which can do 1080i) connected to this very same TV with component cables. All in all, as long as this thing continues to perform this way for the long run, I would say this was an excellent buy, especially for the price.

Purchased it to connect HDMI output from a Lenovo Laptop (Linux Mint KDE 18.3 OS) with Hi-Res Monitor to Sony Bravia TV. Both TV HDMI ports were in use so I wanted to connect to one of the available Component ports.

I thought I might have made a mistake purchasing it because although there was audio, when I first attached the converter (and pressed the "resolution" button), all I saw on the TV was a dark grey screen with the Component port number displayed. I checked all the connections, pressed the resolution button several times, and waited but could not see the Laptop monitor screen on the TV. By the way, the instructions are good but there never was a "colour banner" on the screen as the instructions said there should be.

The next day I was going to return it but thought I should confirm that the laptop was recognising the TV as a monitor. After exiting from the computer display and monitor settings, the default KDE desktop pattern suddenly appeared on the TV. I synchronised the monitors, then cycled through the keyboard monitor selection key ("Function" key off) - [F7]. Everything worked perfectly! The TV shows it is set at 1080P.

Why did it did not work "out of the box"? Perhaps the electronics needed to normalise. It was a cold wet day when it was delivered and the package was left on the doorstep for a while. Or maybe I missed a computer setting somewhere the first time I connected it. I have wiggled the connectors and the picture remains steady so it is mechanically solid. I highly recommend it based on my experience.

Generally does what it says. The resolution selector button is the key feature compared to any cheaper HDMI-to-component converters. If you're buying this, you're probably using it for an older HDTV that doesn't have working HDMI inputs, and also doesn't do 1080p60 via the component input. Most older TVs with component inputs can handle 720p60 and 1080i60. Note the "i" for interlaced. I'm using a Roku with this converter box on a 2006 Sony 32" HDTV in my bedroom. When you plug in the Roku, it talks to this box and outputs 1080p60 to it. So if your TV doesn't do 1080p60 via component, you have to gradually hit the resolution button until you get to 1080i60 (you'll first cycle through a bunch of lower resolution settings (and 50 Hz settings for Europe).

The sharpness is great converting 1080p60 to 1080i60 for my TV. Luminance range looks fine (range from black to white). Color is too saturated, requiring me to use the TVs settings to turn down color to 43 instead of the normal 50. The worst aspect of the picture quality, however, is the "banding" across similar brightness and color gradients. For example, if you look at video of a sky that's smoothly going from bright white at the top to medium blue at the bottom, you'll see chunky sections of a few different levels of blue, instead of a smooth transition. Another example is the Roku standard home screen which by default has a purple gradient in the background. It looks chunky and terrible. In most video content, you don't notice it, but when it's there it's distracting. Sign of a poor digital to analog converter, I'm guessing.

Two more little things keeping this from getting a higher rating: This converter has a very bright red power LED, which I had to cover up with electrical tape to make it tolerable in a bedroom. Also, the power cord is, like so many other power cords these days, super short. Not even long enough to sit atop a chest of drawers.

So, if you want this to keep an old TV useful in a non-critical situation, I suppose it's fine for 30 dollars. Not quite worth the trouble to send it back. But if you need something to look GOOD, you probably want to spend more.
