About the author
I am the author of, The Stranger, The Amish Connection and When Rachel Remembers, Amish inspirational novels, as well as Maplehill Summer and Love Song, clean-read contemporary romance novels. Also, Anita da Napoli, a poignant memoir of my mother. My first Amish inspirational romance novel, The Stranger, was published by White Rose publishing. My self-help book, Confronting the Bully of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder) has been recently updated. A beneficial step-by-step self-help book with techniques taught to me by a leading NYC OCD specialist, Dr. Steven Brodsky. I also authored the cookbook: Prep-Free Cooking, an easier and painless way to prepare meals. I enjoy reading, writing, uplifting drama movies, quiet prayer, playing electronic drums, jamming, nature, NYC and upstate NY jaunts, walking to keep fit, vegan cooking, learning languages, and good phone conversations. I don't eat animals. Am an advocate for treatment of Lyme Disease, and awareness of keeping our planet healthy.

Now, Kristen tries to settle into Amish life because it is only for a year. When she is eighteen and her mother's estate is settled, she can leave the Amish. Kristen lives with her Aunt Elizabeth and her husband and his son John from a previous marriage. John is courting Sadie, but he feels sorry for Kristen and tries to help her adapt to her new life. Kristen is attracted to John, and John soon wonders if he is courting the right girl.
Then a mystery starts to develop. Someone is leaving messages in Elizabeth and John's mailbox saying that the stranger needs to go back to where she came from. Kristen feels unwanted and rejected. Kristen never knew about her mother's family, and never knew the dad that left her, and now she has even more upset...her life seems to be all tangled up.
The Stranger is a heartwarming story about a girl, who must live in a strange place, with people she has never met before, but discovers that she is on a journey that will change her life forever.
A truly enjoyable read any season !
enhanced my knowledge of the Amish culture. Definitely a 5 star novel.
John is Amish, and is about the only one accepting of Kristen at first. He befriends her, and helps her as she tries to unravel the mystery, and discover her ancestry. But what will Kristen choose? Will she return to her known and loved world? Or stay in the one she's been thrust into and comes to love?
A coming of age story for Kristen, mixed with a light romance and a mixing of mystery, this is a book that Amish fiction loves will flock to. The Amish setting in the story is a real life area only about an hour and a half from Ms. Maran's vacation home, so she visits the area often. You can feel her familiarity with the areas in the style of writing.
