Review

The strength of this series is all of the bookshave heroines with completely different story lines; however, they all share a profound belief in the One True God. Reading these books makes you want to goto the Bible and learn more. --Anne P.

From the Author

Thank you for continuing on my journey with the daughters of Zelophehad. I couldn't leave these girls without having them settle their land.

The beginning crisis in
Claiming Canaan has Milcah fighting to save her portion of land. In Joshua 17:3-4, we are told the daughters went to Joshua to remind him about their inheritance. We don't know why they felt the need to remind Joshua about their portion of land, but it had been over seven years since Moses told the leaders of Israel about God's declaration. We are never told who the daughters married, or if they did marry.

We also don't know exactly where the daughters' land was located. I looked at the land bestowed on the tribe of Manasseh and placed the daughters in a perilous place--near Canaanite cities that had lost their kings, but still housed idol worshippers. I placed the daughters near Megiddo.

Meggido is mentioned in Deborah's song in Judges 5:19, but it is also where the last battle of Armageddon will be fought (Revelation 16:16). I decided to put the descendants of faith-filled women in a place where the ultimate spiritual battle will be waged. Perhaps you know who I had in mind as the mysterious warrior Milcah facesoutside of Megiddo.

God's Word never ceases to inspire me. That is why I enjoy bringing little-known Bible stories to light.
May the Lord bless you and keep you.

In the greatest adventure of the trilogy, the writer has separated, but beautifully blended the stories of the five sisters within this saga, so that the conclusion really completes the individual tales of each sister as they participated in daily life. For instance, for the other three daughters: Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah. One cooks for the family and the other two younger ones do basic chores to bring water, the manna...and to help with playing with a younger son of a widower...

There is little emphasis on the battles that take place. The people of lands being given to the Tribes of Israel worship gods whose graven image were statues--idols created by man, rather than the worship of One God. Interaction between God's chosen people with these individuals reveals how that association can taint the children of God if allowed.

The realization that, even with the Israelites, the emotions of jealousy, covetous actions, and the "role of women" at that time is, in my opinion, one of the major thrust identified and the role of The Daughters of Zelophehad in that long future journey that women still face.

Finally, arriving at the designated land for the Daughters creates the most memorable family drama and ultimate conclusion that is brought to each of the Daughters through God's love. Their faith, perhaps greater than others? Their commitment to God, perhaps greater than others? We don't know. But, what we do conclude through this fantastic sage of women of the Bible is that God also touches and welcomes the association and devotion of women around the world... For so many reasons, I recommend all three books as Must-Reads! Check out my blog for a full dramatization of the Trilogy...

At last, we are able to read about the exciting ending for five faithful sisters on their way to the promised land! Claiming Canaan: Milcah’s Journey, the third and final book in the Daughters of Zelophehad series, takes place seven years after the end of book two. When this story begins, Milcah has already lost one betrothed, and is about to learn her second betrothed has also died in battle. This causes more complications than only the obvious sorrow. The years of travel are at last over for the tribes of Israel, and it is time for the clans to claim their inheritance. But for Milcah, who is not only unmarried but now viewed as cursed, how can she obtain and retain her inheritance without the husband God decreed? Of course, God provides an answer, but as is often is the case, it is not as simple and direct as His petitioners usually hope. And thus begins another pleasurable reading journey into the past.

Just as in the first two books about the five loyal sisters, Barbara M. Britton provides an exceptional insight into what it may have been like when the tribes reached their chosen land. Before reading this book, it never occurred to me to wonder, what type of land would it be, or how would it be allocated? I think one of the best things about Barbara’s books is that she not only gently educates through her fiction, but she also encourages the reader ponder basic, universal questions in a new and insightful way. It takes a very skilled writer to produce entertaining, exciting, enjoyable fiction which can also expand our minds at the same time. I would put Barbara at the top of the list, and encourage you to pick up this or any of her stories to read. You will not be disappointed.

I thought this book would be boring even before I started reading. I reminded myself that there is always mystery and wisdom in Gods Word. We just have to be open to it. I particularly liked the boldness of the sisters in their Faith in their one true God.

I am currently studying the old testament. I was intrigued when I ran across the daughters of Zelophehad. One way I get familiar with the characters of the old testament is to read historical fiction. This series was in my Amazon suggested to read section soon after I had read that part of the Old Testament.
These five ladies set a precedence for all women in the future. These books were a wonderful telling of the influence of a powerful woman. I enjoyed the camaraderie Brittan wove throughout the girls lives and the differences in their personalities. My mother is the youngest of five sisters and I am the youngest of four daughters. We know 1st Hans sisters can be in formidable.
I love reading Christian historical fiction as I study Old Testament. I appreciate the authors, scope of scripture, bringing authenticity and that historical time to life for me. It has caused me to think beyond the words on the page in the Old Testament. To think about the lives of those individuals and how there is truly no new thing under the sun. They are as real and as human as we all are.

I have never read a book from this time period that painted a picture of how the time period was lived; their customs; their way of lives like this book so vividly paints & describes. I fell in love w this time period and the sisters of this hook. I have grew up in church & have never heard of this story. I asked a bible scholar about this story and they have never heard of this story. I highly recommend this book!

I like the twists and turns that keep requiring faith to overcome. The dependence upon a loving God that sacrifice and trial require. Showing the sadness and feelings of hopelessness that occurs in some families that can claim to be following God but do not truly follow him. It is how our hearts are rather than our worship that makes a difference that brings love and hope.
Thanks for a good story.

So enjoy continuing the story of characters we have already met and deepening our understanding of new ones. I love how Barbara acknowledges Gods intervention in their daily lives and how her characters choose to believe God works with them and for them. A great series
