When I was two years old and traveling on a train to California with my parents, I entertained the passengers with my made-up stories. I've been telling stories ever since.

My first published book was The Hideout whose plot was hatched when I was twelve years old and sitting in Sunday school imagining what it would be like to live in a church. Not until the first year I was married did I finally write it. It was published by Moody Press in 1983. I have revised, updated, and re-published it.

Susanna of Beaver Lodge is a Christmas story from 1939 taken from the life of my mother and her sisters growing up in a wonderful country home called Beaver Lodge with wrap-around porches upstairs and down.

My adult Christian historical novel, The Chautauqua Belles, takes place at the Chautauqua Institution. As I walked the tree-lined streets with charming gingerbread-trimmed cottages, or as I read on the veranda of the stately Hotel Athenaeum, I would imagine ladies with their long skirts and parasols. I have tried to make that era come alive. The title comes from a steamboat that today plies the waters of Chautauqua Lake, The Chautauqua Belle.

Real Places Brought to Life is what I write about. Most of these places you can visit too. For more information check out my website at www.bethlivingston.net where you will also see lots of pictures.

I grew up in Lewiston, New York and lived in the Buffalo area until recently when my husband and I retired to Dublin, Ohio to be near grandchildren.

Graduating from Wheaton College in 1974 with a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, I received my Master's Degree in Library Science in 1975 from the University of Illinois. For five years I was the school librarian in Geneva, Illinois and thirteen years at West Seneca Christian School in West Seneca, New York.

I have two grown children and two grandchildren.

Besides writing, I enjoy cooking, quilting, reading, and selling fabric online. I teach a ladies' Sunday school class, a Wednesday night kids' club, and VBS.

Great storyline for history and issues that were very realistic for the time period. Well written without the use of filthy language to describe less than desirable situations.

I found myself observing the story as it unfolded. The writing puts the reader in the setting as an observer.

So many young women endured the kind of thing that Rebecca did in that time. So sad. Thankful that good came from all of it.

This is not my typical genre preference. I'm also not a huge fan of serials. This book, though! I honestly don't know what compelled me to download it. I'm certainly glad I did, though! It was sweet, clean (modest), and well-written. My only complaint is the speed with which everything happened. I realize it was necessary in order to tell such a long story, but it kind of took some of the feeling out, I think. Still, I will absolutely consider more from this series!

It's been a long time since I've read a book that i couldn't put down, and this book fit that bill.
I'm not sure what specific aspect of the book kept me reading for hours past my bedtime, but it's been a long time since that's happened to me.

This book did move quite quickly, and I felt it would have been nice to see the characters fleshed out a bit more. Some subject matter was delicate, and we understood the horror without it being overly graphic. I enjoyed the historical aspects as well, especially as there were explanations and references at the end of the book.

With all of that said, I enjoyed the story and the journey very much, and would like to read the rest of the series.

Rebecca is all alone in the world. She finds a job as a maid. She’s raped by the brother of her employer who wants a baby. She has twins and leaves. Fast forward 18 years and the twins are 18 but don’t know each other. Didn’t like the time lapse. The historical information was interesting. I found the writing a little tedious at times.

I read The Chautauqua Bells, Tour of Mansions 1 and delighted in its brilliant work. It was a real page-turner. I like to read in bed before sleep. I often stayed awake until after midnight, because I had to discover what would happen with Rebecca and later with Patricia. My favorite character was Sadie. She was the Savior on earth: always kind, helpful, good and selfless without thought for her own oppression. The author's research, brought the places in the book, vividly, into my imagination. I, probably, will never visit western New York, but I have done my own research via the internet and found it fascinating.
