Bonds of Valor (Libri Valoris Book 4) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 27 ratings

A private eye saves his dead friend.

The Black Company deals with something fishy.

Deathmages, space mages, and forgotten magic.

It’s all here in fourteen stories of valor, heroism, and bonds that tie folk together, for good or ill. There are bonds of love, oaths to gods, and life-long friends.

Will the old, crusty worn-out veteran find his new partner just might be something? Will the knight learn humility from those who serve him? Will Indrajit and Fix restore the path of true love?

Or will the bonds between characters break under the pressure of evil wizards, ancient enemies, or massive dragons?

Come find out.

Glen Cook's entry is my favorite, a short but classic tale from the annals of the Black Company.

The stories are solid, most from, not new writers in the field but ones that have had far less exposure than they should. Sarah Hoyt is the only other name I recognized offhand but I remembered others as I read their work.

Only one complaint about the book, the editing is a little weird with double (maybe triple?) spacing between lines and huge margins. No big deal but seems like some pagecount (and overall size) could have been saved by doing something more traditional.

Overall, I recommend it to fantasy readers new and old. Read it, find a story you like, track down the author's other works.

This delightful collection of tale equals its predecessors and exceeds them in some ways. Each story of valor is crafted by those who know about it but also know just how to convey the complexity and diversity of that trait. Some settings are “normal” in settings relatable to battle or quests readers can relate to directly while a few approach the task from the tangent helping us find valor in a different setting. For example, among those already dead who had not already shown valor while among the living. You’ll find a story to your liking and likely more than one in this anthology. It will leave you wanting, if not impatiently waiting, for more, more, more…

Bonds of Valor is another excellent collection in the Valor anthology series. The highlights of the collection for me was D.J. Butler’s Indrajit and Fix story, The Bonds of Matrimony and Severed Bonds set in Benjamin Tyler Smith’s Necrolopolis Universe. The only thing missing from the collection was a story about Rellen by Quincey J. Allen. Even without a tale from Allen the collection holds up to its predecessors. The book has a nice flow even though it is an anthology with vastly different settings. Some of the stories take place in outer space. A very different setting for fantasy. I highly recommend this collection for fans of fantasy.

Live this edition. The continuing anthology series is always fun to read. Many of my favorite authors are in here. As with any anthology some stories I liked better by I didn't think any we're bad.

What made this one so good is holding on to friendships is an experience we all have. When stess hits us. Or when there is something going on and we have to choose the right thing even if it costs that friendship.

Valor and being brave without friends. I've been there. And wouldn't have it any other way.

From love to war to bonds sought and unsought, this book covers them all. There are old favorites from a tale of the Necropolis to the Black Company and M.Y.T.H., Inc. Then there are new ones, from an unwanted tie between a warrior mage and a tiny familiar to a last stand by a legion no one wants. All worth reading, and well worth your time.

A great collection of stories that show what true valor is. An introduction to new authors as well as the return of some favorites. A good choice if you want a varied selection of styles. Will be searching for more by these authors.

To those who have their honor or life placed between evil and those downtrodden this fourth volume of the Libri Valoris salutes you. Honor the valorous subjects in this book as the routinely place themselves between evil and those who cannot protect themselves from evil.

I really enjoyed this anthology. There were quite a few authors that I had not read for several years, and several more that I look forward to finding more of their work as soon as possible.
