Review

"Chantelle and Burgen Thorne's fun illustrations for Candace Spizzirri's engaging picture book adventure Finley: A Moose On The Cabooseadd artistic flair and a sense of humor and positivity to the story of "the friendliest moose" Finley, who loves to greet train passengers to his town with a smile and a willingness to listen to their adventures.

These efforts lead to Finley's own desires to travel the rails―but he finds, when he attempts to jump aboard a moving train, that 'wild animals' are not welcome on a train (even though he is a very friendly one).

Not one to admit defeat, Finley decides that a disguise is the perfect way to board. Too bad he's chosen the one disguise that also is not allowed!

Failure doesn't deter this moose, and Finley's daily antics to sneak aboard a train while adhering to its too-many rules will provide young readers with much laughter, cemented by the zany illustrations which capture Finley's exploits.

"Rules are rules." But, in special circumstances, they can be broken.

Parents, kids, and educators who choose Finley: A Moose On The Caboose for its entertainment value will find its underlying messages about perseverance, problem-solving, and adhering to (while creatively re-interpreting) rules to be both fun and thought-provoking.

Finley: A Moose On The Caboose is a lively, colorful choice for any library strong in tales that both entertain and lead to broader young reader discussion about rules, determination, and utilizing one's special abilities to get ahead."

Finley is a moose full of personality who's determined to achieve his dream of riding on a train. His various attempts, and the silly costumes he uses, will have kids laughing, and they'll cheer for his success. Kids will love Finley, and will love spotting his friend the bird on every page. Great read!

Despite Conductor Jones insisting, "No wild animals allowed!", Finley, a friendly moose with a can-do attitude, wants to ride the rails. Children will adore watching Finley finagle his way onboard and prove that some rules need to be changed. Candace Spizzirri's delightful text pairs beautifully with Chantelle and Burgen Thorne's making this absolute moose-t read!

What could a Moose possibly have to do with a caboose? What a fun idea. Finley has a desire, a dream, a goal! He is determined to realize his dream of riding on the train. But he is a wild animal, and the rules say wild animals are not allowed on the train. In his mind, he is friendly. No one takes the time to see his friendly demeanor and his is cast off the train time after time. I love how this story unfolds, all the creative ways Finley tries to board the train, and how Finley's true nature is ultimately revealed.

Finley is an adorable story and an adorable character. I love how Finley dreams of going clickety-clack on the track, feeling the blustery breeze on his face and visiting distant destinations. The illustrations are so charming! I felt for Finley as he tried out various disguises (the steamer trunk and hot dog were my favorites!). I want a Finley on my train! I would highly recommend this book for the humor and heart infused throughout the story, the powerful message (some rules are meant to be broken), the amazing setting - Alaska! - and the beautiful art.

An engaging and delightful book! " If at first you don’t succeed: try, try again “ is at play here in a playful manner no less.
The author continues to bring a charm to her story that allows for imaginative discourse with your child.
The illustrators do not disappoint! So critical to the success of a good children’s book.
What I liked most about Finley : A Moose On The Caboose is the idea that circumstances can change in life - be it rules, dreams, or the future!
