Private Vegas Kindle Edition
Las Vegas is a city of contradictions: seedy and glamorous, secretive and wild, Vegas attracts people of all kinds-especially those with a secret to hide, or a life to leave behind. It's the perfect location for Lester Olsen's lucrative business. He gets to treat gorgeous, young women to five-star restaurants, splashy shows, and limo rides-and then he teaches them how to kill.
Private Jack Morgan spends most of his time in Los Angeles, where his top investigation firm has its headquarters. But a hunt for two criminals leads him to the city of sin-and to a murder ring that is more seductively threatening than anything he's witnessed before. Chilling and marvelous, Private Vegas brings James Patterson's Private series to a sensational new level.

However, why call it Las Vegas? The main stories were in LA. Yes there was maybe one or two Vegas chapters but to me not enough to title a book. But what do I know, and what do I care about the title. I only care if I enjoyed the book, which I did. It entertained me and I found it to be a good read.
I am not sure the ending was believable but maybe it is a lead in to the next Private book. What do I know except Del Rio needs to learn to control his temper, Jack and Justine need to work it all out and somehow Patterson needs to kill off Tommy so Jack can lead a life without stressing over his no good brother.
a jury trial, two foreign diplomats who are murderous perverts, a scheming mastermind who teaches beautiful women how to propose and dispose of rich gentlemen, and last but not least, a mysterious maniacal motorist. Our attention focuses back and forth from each of the interlocking circles temporarily confusing us and always entertaining us. Strike up the music!
Found this book was not up to the writing style and high standard I expect from these books. For some time it seems to me that many of the series that Patterson does start out extremely strong but then fade out as more books come out. Maybe I am nuts or way off base but it almost seems to me that Patterson almost always creates an amazing character that is very easy to become attached to and is deep and interesting. But then future books in the series use that great character but don't continue to develop it, having the character grow and change over time. I don't know if that is because the initial creation is just him and the ongoing series is a partnership with another author and that development is hard to maintain if it is a team writing him/her? Regardless this was a good book but not one of the best.
The story starts with Jack and his investigators in hot pursuit of two scumbags who assault and rape unsuspecting Rodeo Drive high-maintenance female shoppers and leave a destructive path through several upscale Hollywood hotels. Because these monsters have diplomatic immunity law enforcement can’t touch them. In another scene Jack’s people discover an over zealous group of wealthy, spoiled teenagers strung out on drugs who despise the world of adulthood because they believe their parents and wealthy friends have destroyed the world’s delicate environmental balance. They soon come to a destructive end. The court scenes in the trial of one of Jack Morgan’s closest friends and top investigators—a fellow Marine who saved his life in Afghanistan--makes for tense reading and may be the most intriguing part of the book.
Private Vegas is definitely more exciting than the two previous Private works, Down Under and India, but still doesn’t reach the level of Patterson’s best. With all of its short comings, I did enjoy Jack Morgan’s adventures and the book in general. But I am hard-pressed to give it more than a weak 4 stars.
A GREAT read and recommend. I couldn't put it down and read it in one day!! Can't wait for the next James Patterson book to come out.
I found it strange that Private was unable to solve the criminal case against Delrio, Jack's best friend. There was not even an attempt to explain why Private could not find evidence to exonerate him or the efforts it had undergone. It seems that a firm hired by (using the authors' term) " the one percent" would be able to prove Delrio innocent prior to him going to trial.
I once read that Patterson's books were no longer interesting. I have to agree with that opinion. I have not read the Alex Cross books in years because they were so repetitive and predictable. The Private series has become the same way -- the characters experience the same issues in each book, but it takes place in a different location. Private Las Vegas didn't even really take place in Las Vegas -- just a small part of one plot
took place there. I do not plan on buying anymore of the Private series -- or maybe even any more Patterson books.
