Christy-Award winner Angela Hunt writes for readers who have learned to expect the unexpected in novels from this versatile author. With nearly six million copies of her books sold worldwide, she is the best-selling author of more than 160 works ranging from picture books (The Tale of Three Trees) to novels and nonfiction.

Now that her two children are grown, Angie and her husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards--one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City. Afterward, the dog gave out paw-tographs at the airport.

When she's not home writing, Angie often travels to teach writing workshops at schools and writers' conferences. And to talk about her dogs, of course.

Prepare your heart for Christmas with Angela Elwell Hunt's lovely Advent devotional! Star of Wonder: An Advent Devotional to Illuminate the People, Places, and Purpose of the First Christmas is both deeply researched and beautifully written, with a scholar's and a storyteller's eye and voice. The book's 25 chapters are divided into four segments: The Places of Christmas; The Prophecies of Christmas; The People of Christmas; and The Purpose of Christmas. Through these, Angela Hunt brings to life the culture, geography, and individuals present in Israel during the years before, during, and after Jesus was born."Star of Wonder" is not only focused on sharing information about Israel and the circumstances and humans around the baby Jesus. Rather, the book is designed to help readers draw nearer to God as they experience, really, living history. Passages of Scripture are shared from numerous versions of Bible, including the Amplified Bible, the Tree of Life Version, the Complete Jewish Bible, and others. I love all the Bible verses, but the Jewish versions of the Scripture absolutely breathe a neww and rich cultural understanding to these events. Each chapter also ends with prayers and encouragements for readers to draw closer to the Lord as they engage more and more with the history and the fulfillment of Yeshua: Jesus, the Messiah. Whose birth we celebrate at Christmas! Angela breathes life into what it might have been like to live in 1st century Nazareth; to be one of the wise men following the Star of Wonder; to be Mary, frantically searching for 12-year-old Jesus, who stayed behind at the temple; and so much more. 25 chapters' worth of wonder about Jesus, the Bible, and the world around Him.I absolutely love this rich and beautiful Advent devotional. It is a blessing to read--and you'll feel that you know so much more about Jesus, His birth, and his family.I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions shared here are my own honest ones.

If Jesus had not come, we would have no hope for this life or the life to come. ~ pg 169

Drawing from the research she has done to write biblical fiction, Angela Elwell Hunt has put together a meaningful set of 25 Daily Devotions & Prayers for December. Each week has a theme and includes an advent activity for families and Sunday school classes to implement and enrich the weeks before Christmas. I always learn new things from Angela Elwell Hunt and this book is no exception. Set this one aside for December, 2024. You will be enlightened and encouraged in the weeks leading up to Christmas Day.

This devotional by Angela Hunt gives the reader information pertinent to the times of Christ's birth, cultural background to help explain the Scriptures, insights that one doesn't read elsewhere. She digs deep into these areas and shares them in a very readable way causing the reader to pause, think, and have an "aha" moment.
This is becoming my favorite advent devotional as I read it each day. Love, love, love it!
The cover design and interior illustrations are also excellent!

I really enjoy the "depth" of the devotional entries but do be aware that makes it not "family friendly". I have to re-read passages and really digest what she is saying. Not good or bad but an FYI is that she uses a Messianic Jewish lens...uses the "Tree of Life" bible translation and it's very Old Testament focused. I appreciate the physical book for it's look and feel. Hardcover with a sturdy "cloth" feel and heavy paperweight feeling pages...nicer than I anticipated for the price. I like that it's divided into sections: "People, Places, Prophecies and Purposes" of Christmas. I deducted a start as the "landing" point is often way different than where the devotion starts off which is confusing but I'm sort of used to it now! Give it a shot for your Advent devotion just go into to it knowing it's not "precious moments", ooey, gooey safe Christmas messages and you'll do fine.

Our entire church ordered one book per family and we are making our way, one day at a time, through this amazing book! It really helps to clarify and explain questions you may not have even been able to put to words regarding the birth of Christ. One of the members is using it for her homeschooled children to help them focus on Christmas the way they truly should. You will not be disappointed with this book!

This advent devotional is slightly different from others I have read. Angela Hunt has researched deeper than just telling the story of Christ’s birth and has added Hebrew customs and knowledge to her writings. I enjoyed this devotional very much.
