The Brittle Land: Book Two in The Brittle Saga Trilogy.

The Brittle Land is book two in a trilogy, an historical romance thriller.

The fateful night of the Titanic disaster sparked a bloody feud between two families in early 20th century America, one that would forever change the lives of two star-crossed lovers. Magda Asparov, the chosen bride of wealthy American businessman Matthew Turner III, is traveling from Ukraine to New York on the Titanic, only to meet a fate that she could never have imagined. After the disaster, Magda is rescued, but she is close to death and has lost her memory, leaving her with a new personality, Maggie. During the voyage to New York, she falls in love with Richard Blackmore, the master of The Lady Jane.

Turner, believing Magda survived the sinking, engages the help of William Harker to find her. When Harker discovers Magda living with Blackmore, Turner's jealous tantrum leads to a series of events filled with mental illness, betrayal, murder and corruption. With all that they have lost, Blackmore is determined to seek out the answers and the revenge he craves.

I was born in the corner of the living room, behind the TV. So said my father many times, and the family agreed whole heartedly. That seems to have set the tone for the rest of my life. In the corner or behind the TV, what is known about my birth is that it was on a dark and stormy night.

My mother inspired me to write. Doctor Who and Isaac Asimov inspired my love of science fiction. Monty Python inspired me to be silly and I blame Billy Connolly for my infrequent bursts of bad language.

Wow. So many threads to keep a handle on. Mental illness in the form of multiple personality disorder, war, Spanish Flu pandemic and more. Wonderful continuation from The Brittle Sea. A definite must read! Love it and anxiously awaiting Book3 The Brittle Sky!

I like the complex characters and intriguing interpersonal dynamics in The Brittle Land. Maggie takes over Magda and tries to build a future for her daughter and her ward. She hopes to reunite with Richard, but he's sailed off into battle in World War I. Watching people like Richard and Maggie fight for what they believe in and strive to accomplish great things--regardless of the odds against them—was inspiring, thought-provoking, and entertaining.

Unpredictable plot. The Brittle Lane offers a Hitchcockian-style theme that takes a dark and twisting turn. Tension and intrigue build against a backdrop of World War I, the Spanish Flu, and Maggie’s personal struggle with a dual personality as she hopes to reconnect with Richard Blackmore. If you’re in the market for a thriller, I recommend this book with four stars. I love the twist at the end that turned everything on its head. I can’t wait to read book 3, The Brittle Sky.
