Like the mighty Mississippi River that cleaves the Quad Cities, the region's history can trap the unwary in some unexpected eddies. Peer through the fog of the past to catch a glimpse of the Tinsmith Ghost of Rock Island or the river serpent with a price on its head. Get the back story on the Banshee of Brady Street, read the 1869 report on a Bigfoot sighting near East Davenport and run the numbers on local UFO activity. From phantom footsteps in the Renwick Mansion to a mausoleum heist in Chippiannock Cemetery, Michael McCarty and John Brassard Jr. trace a path through the shadowy heritage of the Quad Cities.

I mean to say this book IS eerie and no mistake and eerie in exactly the way it should be where you settle yourself in your chair, flip through it,look at the misty quite atmospheric photographs, examine the chapter titles and comfort yourself with the lie, 'oh, I can handle this;no problem." Thing is, it grows on you, the sense of foreboding. So if you are a fan of the sense of foreboding this is the book for you. All kidding aside, I enjoyed the earlier volume in the same way, Ghosts of the Quad Cities. This book also has its spooky charms but is similar to the previous book in the quality of the storytelling. Disclaimer here; and why I say don't try this at home and mean it is I feel as a Christian LOOKING for ghosts, RECORDING ghosts, and most especially TALKING to ghosts is NOT a good idea. I'm with the person quoted farther on in the book who said basically when you start to smell sulfur get the heck out of there. I would recommend stay home and read about it. There is no better use of the term armchair traveler than as it can be applied to narratives of a ghostly nature. So read on, and don't forget the Lord's Prayer really does help and I'm not joking about that. At all. And hey, if you love good story telling, the kind that makes you think of gents huddling around a pot bellied stove in ye old general store with pickle barrels saltines and whatnot having a gossip fest about ghosts and strange sightings, you will love this book. I am an inordinate fan of the lead paragraphs and the summations of all the stories. Just good stuff. Writing in the old style than never grows old. And also, with a lot of variety in it. And where else can you find out about in the same lurid green volume a missing Tiffany window, a Midwestern giant out of a fairytale, a man who very rightly could not shake the feeling of preordained doom and assorted mansions with actual addresses some of them still standing, each with their own peculiar myths. Be brave dear reader. And if you happen to read this at Thanksgiving, be grateful YOU are not the one who had to trek to all those iffy ghostly sites and find out the truth. If you read this at Christmas, maybe leave some fruitcake out for the ghosts. And remember, life is short. Our deeds and sometimes the shadows of them for good or bad leave traces in the air and in the hearts of men.

EERIE QUAD CITIES is extremely well written and complimented by the combination of McCarty & Brassard Jr. who created a topnotch book that will be a historical masterpiece for all time. It is a fascinating read with the Foreword written by The Amazing Krestin. As if that isn’t amazing enough, the book is also dedicated to Kreskin. ERRIE is a potpourri of haunted scenarios and settings, encounters with ghosts, experiences with the spirit world and mysterious sightings. The Quad Cities is an area of rich history with connections to intriguing characters and tales that live on from the grave. There are also creatures of the earth with a reign of their own in mysterious settings that give reason to pause. The book contains captivating photographs, many taken by McCarty, who has captured timeless images with finesse. There are also illustrations that lend a lens to the tales. I’m so impressed by the authors’ spin of their hometown with all the intriguing secrets and legends they presented. I highly recommend this book no matter where you live because it brings forth the intricacies of the Midwest for all to explore and appreciate.

I received a free copy of this book as a gift.

This is a great read for those days when time for the luxury of reading is limited because each story in this anthology is just the right length to read in one sitting.

As someone who has personally experienced more than a few genuine paranormal experiences during my long life, and having debunked some that others considered "the real thing," I approached this read with a skeptical mindset. However, the authors include their own diligent research results along with the findings of area paranormal investigators which debunks or adds validity to the paranormal phenomena highlighted in this book. Still, the authors encourage the readers to draw their own conclusions. The result is a balanced narrative that adds intrigue to the rich history of the famous Iowa/Illinois Quad Cities area.

I think readers interested in the paranormal and supernatural will like this, and I recommend it.
