This is the third book I've read on the subject. It is written in a very easily understood language, rather than using too many clinical terms that are encountered in books written by authors who are admittedly in possession of a PhD. I don't believe the lack of a piece of paper makes Puzzling People any less valid. After all, anyone is capable of making a study of people and documenting their findings, and perhaps go on to publish those findings.
I finished the book off in two days. The various key traits of the psychopath are outlined. Often I would laugh upon reading some of the paragraphs. That's because they resonated so strongly with my own experiences. Admittedly I did not learn anything startlingly new from this book, since I have previous experience with psychopaths and have read other books, but this book is useful to read nonetheless. In fact it might be useful to remind oneself now and then of this unfortunate type of person. The psychopath is a shell that houses an entity unlike most of us. It has no conscience. It is devoid of the wide range of emotions the rest of us have. It can do what it wants to you and me and it can sleep at night. It is sub-human.
There is a section on the psychopaths that are at the highest levels of government and corporations, and the methods they employ to keep people in their grip.
The book concludes with ways to regain your life and energy after an encounter with a psychopath, and reminds us to close the door on them and never ever open it again.
The only complaint I have with the book (and you can call me pedantic if you like) is that it really ought to have been proof-read before publishing because it is, unfortunately, littered with typographical errors. At times I found that a little distracting. However, it doesn't take away from the fact that it's a good read on a subject more people really need to be aware of.
The only problem I had with the book was that it went off the rails about three-quarters of the way through, turning into a screed against "institutional psychopaths" in popular culture, government, etc. I understand the author's passion, but his points could have been made more succinctly and with more restraint. As they stand now, it sounds like ranting.
Otherwise, great book. Looking forward to reading his other one.

It is an invaluable resource:
- for any individual encountering psychopathy (whether in personal, business or public relationships) and wanting to understand what's going on
- for anyone getting out of or recovering from a close encounter
- for the helping professions to get a grasp of a very active, dynamic and detrimental epidemic underlying many of today's calls for help
- as a teaching tool to help raise public awareness and build resistance to the "virus" (strengthening the mental immune system, if you will)
To this survivor of multiple encounters with psychopaths, reading "Puzzling People" provided the last missing piece of the puzzle because the author clearly addresses the entrapment of the victim's spirit/life force - and provides answers to the path of freedom.
This entrapment is the most hideous abuse/crime possible to inflict upon a human soul and it is currently spreading like a wildfire through all levels of society.

We all read good books, some very good, some ok, and occasionally we find a book or an author which stands out from the rest, and in some cases even changes your life. These 3 books by Thomas Sheridan have done just that for me. After suffering from a traumatic break up two and a half years ago, and still until reading these books, I thought it was my fault, I was to blame. This deeply troubled me from the summer of 2010, even more so as a family member was involved. When in point of fact I think i was dealing pr had been dealing with a Psychopath woman hell bent on destroying me.
These books have helped me understand exactly what happened, how it happened, why it happened and more importantly how to prevent being a victim of a Psychopath again...I do not use the word Psychopath lightly for describing what I dealt with, only through these books and listening to Thomas Sheridan in interview have I come to understand and feel confident in labelling my past experience as with a psychopath. I firmly know that everybody should read these books and listen to Thomas Sheridan in interview on Youtube and his website [...]. It could very well just save your life and sanity, quite literally.
At the end of the book, my opinion of it is even higher - it's really THE book that everyone on the planet needs to read. I don't even care about the nitpicky things at the end of the book because the good stuff is so good and so well written that anybody can understand and relate and that's one heck of an accomplishment!
I noticed that a couple of reviewers suggested that the author wrote "emotionally" and I have to differ. His presentation was superb, his examples down-to-earth, and his emotions well in check. The only place where I would say that he was at all emotional was in his presentation of the idea that psychopaths eventually "get theirs." They don't. Most of the ones at the top die in their beds, surrounded by the fruits of their pathology, maintaining their mask to the end. But then, maybe he was just trying to not depress his readers.
I've already bought almost a dozen copies to send to family and friends. If you love somebody, give them this book; it might save their life or, at the very least, their sanity!
