Over the 28 years I have been in professional Social Work, I've met people from the privileged to the poor and most their relatives. This is a short, almost true history of that career, funny to tragic. Names/places have been changed to protect innocent and guilty; but I promise you won't find anything more fascinating than true life in my world. It gets greasy, gritty, gracious and no way glamourous here; I think it has been a life well lived.
If you like true to life stories, odd characters funny to tragic, you will love this book.

What others have said about Traveler's writing:
"J. Traveler's is a gem of an author and storyteller. I know one when I find one because I'm an author myself. Her covers of her dog mysteries are adorable too. I love reading of older times and families of Faith with a gift for humor. This has it all. What a blessing to get a glimpse into such a special time, place, and family. It's just one big serendipity to come across a gift like this"

"I loved this book. Very interesting premise and the story kept me turning the pages. As soon as I finished I looked for the next book."

J. Traveler Pelton was born in West Virginia in the last century. She lives on a small farm with her husband, 7 alpaca, chickens, 5 Pomeranians, 14 canaries and tolerates T-Bears Siamese cats and irascible parrot Giz. She loves to find out what all her friends are studying. She is the mother of six adults, a grandmother of eight, a great-grandma of 1, a Clinically Licensed Independent Social worker, a retired adjunct professor of social work at her local university and an avid reader. She studies science, technology, Biblical studies, and human behavior. She is quick to draw parallels between different fields of thought and weave the ideas into a cohesive ideology that is at once practical, usable, and thoughtful. Her books are the result of blending her life experiences with bureaucracy, studying science and nature, counseling, and faith. She greatly enjoys the intersection of fantasy and possibility and hopes you enjoy it as well. We will see you on the other side of the imagination tree.

Her co-author of the Clan Falconer fantasy series is her grandson T-Bear. T Bear Pelton is a self-proclaimed gamer, a Christian active in his home church, a Native American, a storyteller, and a novice blacksmith. He lives with his grandparents, his Amazon parrot, and four Siamese on a small alpaca farm while working full time and dreaming of times when magic still existed. Enjoy this fantasy with him and for just a little while, suspend daily life for a dream of dragons and wizards, beautiful ladies and knights, magic and faith. Travel then with us to another time, another place, and another dimension. Come to the future, after the Great War, when tech and magic combine with faith and fear.

Their farm, Springhaven Croft, is home to alpacas, dogs, Siamese cats, canaries, an eclectic group of chickens and an irascible Amazon Parrot named Gizmo. I enjoyed this book. The writing was done well and the subject matter interesting. It is a short easy read, some of it sad, some of it hilarious. It skims the surface of issues in Appalachia, not really going in depth to explain the background of that part of the country. Still it was entertaining to read.

Entertaining and thought provoking. Personal history offers insight in to being poor and bullied by gov't when poor and when a native American. This person rose to the challenges. I'd love to read a sequel. The worse thing about this book is that it really needs to be proof read to fix dropped words and syntax.

The life story of the author and memories of her career as a social worker is an interesting read. It gives a view that is needed, both of the good and bad parts of CPS.

I enjoyed reading this book because of the variety of short but interesting chapters. We don't often get a glimpse into the CPS viewpoint, and this author shows a depth of humanity, understanding, and respect when dealing with those families who have a need for community involvement in order to protect the vulnerable who can't speak for themselves. Thank you for sharing these stories with us.

This author’s job experiences will tug at your heartstrings. She shows how wonderful most people can be, but also shows the terrible side of family squabbles.

I was a bit disappointed at the lack of editing in the manuscript, but it did not prevent me from thoroughly enjoying the book.

Mrs. Pelton was a real blessing to her clients!

You Can't Make This Stuff Up was my first book I have read by J.T. Pelton however it won't be my last. If you want to get a peek into the life of a social worker and the clients they work with this is a book for you. I enjoyed the short chapter format and how Pelton keeps you engaged through out the book, upon finishing I just downloaded another of her titles, give her books a try you won't be disappointed.
