Choosing a word – just one – from each book of the Bible may seem like an inadequate approach. A Word for Your Day seamlessly weaves scripture into modern day settings using one word per chapter. There’s a bounty of information molded into a quick and easy read. It’s uplifting, educational, witty, and skillfully well-written. A fresh, inviting format for devotions. Really enjoyed it.

The book touched me, as a reader, on both an emotional and logical level. I absolutely loved where the author included first-hand experiences and relatable applications to illustrate a point. These, and the chronological organization, help the reader to better understand each book of the Bible, allowing the reading to be especially engaging. And while every section of the text struck an invaluable chord for me, furthering my faith: “Favor” (from Esther) and “Think” (from Philippians) were among the most powerful messages provided.
The world needs more compassionate, faithful authors like Lori Hatcher, to fire us up to the task of courageously following the unique mission that God has gifted each of us. Don’t miss her new gem!

Light enough to understand, deep enough to learn new things

“A Word for Your Day” is the third of Lori Hatcher’s devotional books that I’ve read and I’ve enjoyed them all. This one focuses on one word from each book of the Bible to help you go deeper into Scripture. Some of the words (like “pardons” or “wrestling” or “contend”) aren’t what I would have expected as a book's focus word. Others (like “beginning” for Genesis) make perfect sense. Either way, I’m enjoying her insights. “A Word for Your Day” is a great option when you want to learn something during your devotional time but also want readings that are relatable instead of super academic.

A Word for Your Day is a prism that reflects the truth of God’s Word with color and vibrancy sure to invigorate and deepen your walk with Jesus. Lori’s tender stories and humorous anecdotes make each devotion relevant and applicable to readers’ lives. A Word for Your Day is my new favorite addition to morning quiet time with God. I think it will become one of your favorites, too.

Each devotion is filled to the brim with scriptural examples of the word being focused on, and I love her structure. She includes an example of how the word has applied in her own life and questions for me to ponder. Each devotion is about three pages long, so I could easily incorporate it into my daily reading. I didn't read the devotions in order, but rather, I chose words that seemed to go with the challenges I was experiencing each day. I have already started sharing particular devotions to encourage others.
Fresh Perspective on Familiar Stories

I was surprised several times by the fresh perspective on passages and stories I've read previously. Lori Hatcher has a way of catching the different angles of God's love for humanity. For example, the devotion "Provided" looks at how God provided for Jonah rather than the usual focus on obedience to God's call. I'm not usually "a word of the year" kind of gal, but this book utilizes the one-word concept to expand my perspective on God's goodness.Reviewed in the United States on February 15, 2024

Great encouragement from every book of the Bible!

A Word for Your Day takes us into every book in God’s Word—one of my favorite features of this beautiful devotional. Every book of the Bible matters, and author Lori Hatcher highlights this truth by spotlighting one word from each inspired book. Shortly after receiving my copy, a dear friend suffered a deep loss. I grabbed A Word for Your Day and took comfort in her devotion “Cry.” Through the prophet Jeremiah’s book Lamentations, Lori’s uplifting words soothed my aching heart. I had expected to read through this devotional in order, but I can’t seem to stop jumping around as I see a different word that draws me to it each day. It’s a great addition to my day and I can already tell will be one of my go-to gifts for any occasion.
