Great supplemental resource for school. I usually let the kids color while I teach the lesson. It helps them focus. I love all the history coloring books from this publisher. Detailed coloring pages for all ages.

I bought this for a child I thought would benefit from the knowledge it contained - and not just as a recreational activity book.

This is a solid collection that would be great for teachers or a homeschooling family to use. As with most Dover coloring books, the text is intended more for adults than for children but could be read aloud. I was a little dismayed that there were only 11 women out of the 45 people featured, although it is worth noting that all 11 women are also featured in the "Famous African American Women" coloring book. Many of the subjects appeared to be drawn from photographs, with some people appearing in iconic poses that will be familiar, but a few others look oddly posed. I hope that Dover will make another book featuring more modern scientists and inventors as many important black scientists were missing, however of course there were only so many pages. Lots of musicians and athletes are featured as well as most of the figures you are likely to find in a standard history textbook, which I'm sure will be more appealing to kids. I was pleased with this and would recommend it as a good overview of many important historical figures.

The people are arranged in alphabetical order, here is a list:
James Baldwin
Romare Bearden
Mary McLeod Bethune
Eubie (James Hubert) Blake

I purchased this book for my nine year old Godson. He has both his birthday and Christmas coming up. My overview of the book is that he will thoroughly enjoy learning more about Black History. I plan to order more books on the subject for him.
