easily fixing this small leak
This tape really works well on a leaky pipe. I recently added a replacement compression connector fitting between two pipes from my well water pressure tank. Unfortunately, due to previous soldering (not by me, at least this time!) the two pipe pieces were not well aligned, so no matter how I tried, there continued to be a small drip leak after I connected the pipes together.. This silicone tape did the trick, easily fixing this small leak. I quickly learned, the more you stretch it before sticking it on, the better. Also that it sticks to itself accidentally if you are not careful. Great stuff; I will probably order some more.Update: I have now used this for sealing an electrical wire connection for my septic tank lift pump (very toxic environment) and so far the connection is holding up well. I had previously used regular electrical tape which deteriorated, letting in moisture and eventually causing my connection to short out! I have also used this tape to seal up exterior wire connections to my internet dish because I do not water entering the underground line. This spring I used the tape to seal up a pesky gas line leak on my old tractor (picture). While I am not proud of how this looks (I kept wrapping tape until the leak stopped), it definitely works. And if not for the tape I would have had to replace the entire gas line tubing and the compression fitting, so i think this fix will be fine for now.

How did I go so many years without this stuff in my shop, or in my car, or in my backpack? Every day I think of new ways to use this stuff.... for instance, today - I was filling a small spray bottle with bug repellent for my backpack, and I was concerned about the top coming unscrewed slightly causing a potential leak. Well, I pulled out my clear version of this same tape, and wrapped it around the top where it screws on, now I am confident it will hold.

Yesterday, my weedeaters foam grip was cracking splitting - out comes the black Silicone tape to the rescue to provide a new grip for the handle. The day before, my tent pole plastic end cap was not staying on the pole, again, Silicone tape to the rescue.

Then, when I was weedeating my lawn, I noticed my trusty outdoor electrical cord took a hit with either the weedeater or hedger, and had a couple of chunks of the outer sheathing missing. I used my Xtreme tape (in the Red color to match the cord ;-)) and it has been holding for weeks and about 4 uses, I don't see why it won't hold for a very long time.

Next, both my backpacking and camping tent poles have vinyl or plastic ends on the poles - and after time these loosen up, want to come off and worse yet get lost! Well, not only does Xtreme tape fuse the tent pole ends to the pole, it also reinforces them and makes them stronger and more durable...

Then, my 20 year old wheelbarrow's wood handles have taken a beating from years in the weather, and they showed a lot of cracking and the wood was very rough. I usually wore gloves when carrying heavy loads with the wheelbarrow, especially since the wood handles were so rough and I worried about getting splinters. I painted the handles with some acrylic latex, and then gave them a wrap with some 1.5" of the black Xtreme tape, and it did wonders. I overlapped the Extreme tape in close windings, so it created a thicker wrap since this was a heavier duty application. I did this almost a year ago, and it has held up fine outside in the AZ heat. I don't store the wheelbarrow in the direct, and I think the UV would wreak havoc. Now I feel like I don't need gloves to use the wheelbarrow.

And then the big test - my garden hose had a pin-hole leak in it, and I applied this tape to it. The key is to make sure you extend the tape on either side of the hole by a few inches (I did three inches on each side of the hole) - and then make sure you stretch the tape very well and evenly around the hose. Also, make sure the hose is on a flat surface, and try to avoid flexing / bending the hose while taping, keep it as straight as possible. Also, give it at least two windings (not just one). It is working fine, if there are any issues I will update.

You get it. This stuff is amazing. Once you wind it on itself it sticks like white on rice. Its resiliency is quite good - it is very tough and it will not come unwound unless you intentionally start to pull on the seam. Then, it will rip instead of lose its contact... it is that sticky to itself.

The list goes on.... like I said, I keep finding more uses for it daily.

I would say just get a roll, and keep it around. You will be amazed at the number of applications this stuff will satisfy.... an easy five star!!

Thanks for reading.

Jury is still out on this product for me. Worked just fine when I initially wrapped a flexible hose, but I noticed a small leak afterwards when the hose was pressurized. In fairness, I will re-wrap the location and see if the leak reappears. I do like the flexibility of the wrap, and it appears to withstand the heat of the day. There is also plenty of product to wrap a number of pipes, hoses, etc.

Aug. 2019 update -- Started using this much more frequently since writing my initial review, which reminded me how useful it is. Almost used it all up and went to reorder, but saw that the price has almost doubled since I bought it (now about $10/roll) . Don't love it quite as much at twice the price. so holding off on the reorder and looking at alternatives.

June 2019 review -- Purchased this tape more than 3 years ago, never having used it before and not really knowing what I would do with it. Have used it several times since then, mostly to repair damaged insulation on electrical wiring or wrap spliced wires. Also used to wrap hard plastic handle of a screwdriver to improve grip. As long as this tape can be stretched and wrapped to overlap itself it works great. As other reviewers have noted it won't stick to anything but itself and even then, won't stick unless it is stretched. Seems like a lot of the negative reviewers didn't understand this. My biggest concern about this is that it usually isn't the first thing that comes to my mind when I need to make the kind of repair for which it is useful. Otherwise I could have used it for a lot more projects over the years. Just used it a couple of days ago and it still worked just as well as it did the first time I used it 3 years ago to repair insulation. That first repair is still holding up like new, and at this rate will probably outlast the cord it was used on.

I bought this for repairing and adding strain relief to my white phone charging cables. I cannot recommend this product for that purpose. The problem is that this tape requires stretching in order to seal and self-fuse well, but the very small cable diameter of charging cables makes it tough to apply it. I feel it would probably work well for larger diameter repairs like heavy cables, pipes or hoses, although I have not tried that yet. The material seems reasonably robust, and the cost is also reasonable, just not well-suited for light cable repairs based on my experience. For light cable repair, the butyl rubber (as opposed to silicone) sealing tape is easier to apply and self-fuses very well, it just doesn't come in a clear version.
