Although I attended the U of Minnesota, I’m a woodsy girl at heart. Or maybe I’m an adventurer—having lived and traveled all over the world, including Siberia, Russia as a missionary for eight years. That’s why my characters seem to get into one scrape after another—they’re too much like me! I love God, my family, my country, my church, and feel privileged every day to be able to write stories.

And my 'official' bio:

With nearly 2 million books sold, critically acclaimed novelist Susan May Warren is the Christy, RITA, and Carol award-winning author of over ninety novels. Wow! Exciting start to a new series!

Wow! Exciting start to a new series!
The Way of the Brave is the first book in Susan May Warren’s new series, Global Search and Rescue. This author is on my “must read” list, and she never disappoints me. The descriptions of mountain climbing were so vivid that I felt as though I were actually there (but the perils that the characters encountered have helped me to decide that I belong on flatter ground). I have to say that it definitely left me anticipating the next book, The Heart of a Hero. The Way of the Brave tells the story of Jenny Calhoun and Orion Starr. Although Jenny denies it at first because she’s hiding a secret that’s eating her with guilt, they knew each other in Afghanistan for a short time. At the time she was a CIA profiler embedded as a journalist and Orion was a SEAL. After she made a terrible mistake that resulted in Orion’s team getting ambushed, she couldn’t rid herself of the guilt she felt. Orion, injured and bitter, retreated to his family home in Alaska, under the shadow of Denali. When Jenny’s annual climbing trip brings her to Alaska, their paths cross again. Jenny’s group runs into trouble, and Orion and his friends head out to rescue them.Orion and Jenny both have to deal with some heart issues before they can even think about pursuing a relationship. I could identify with both of them because their struggles are so common. It’s easy to wonder where God is when things go wrong, or ask why God didn’t answer a prayer the way we wanted Him to. Sometimes we feel the burden of guilt that we just can’t seem to rid ourselves of. I think my favorite quote from the book was towards the end: “Yes, life is unfair, and we will always have people who will hurt us… But God wants you to let Him handle the justice…you just give Him your heart… The question is, are you brave enough to let go and give Him your heart?” It’s not easy to give up control and trust when you don’t have the end in sight. The story kept me engaged through the vivid descriptions and heart-stopping action. Would Orion and Jenny be able to work through the issues and secrets hindering a relationship? Would the rescue even be a success? I would recommend The Way of the Brave to anyone who enjoys a suspense-filled epic romantic adventure. It is also an inspirational book, with definite Christian themes.I received a copy of this book from the publisher, but the views expressed here are entirely my own.

When I read a book, I like to highlight or underline quotes that are powerful and gripping. Well, in this new book by Susan May Warren it’s as if the WHOLE book is underlined. In the first paragraph, there is a quote that shows the mood of our hero Orion.

“But he belonged in all that cold and darkness, under the shadow of unforgiving Denali, buried under a numbing layer of ice and snow.”

Orion is a man trapped with dark feelings of anger for a past he had no control of. Jenny has a secret that is eating her alive and so she climbs to the highest mountains to try to feel free of the darkness she has. Orion and Jenny both are brave, yet neither one feels brave. Their pasts haunt them, and they don’t know how to get beyond the pain they believe they caused others.
This story takes place on a beautiful mountain in Alaska. Denali is the highest mountain in North America. It is a stunning mountain and there are many who fly over or hike it. Any time of the year, people flock to it to see its beauty and majesty. It can also be one of the most dangerous. In this book, you will experience real death dropping action and scenes. The author keeps us on the seat of our chairs gripping the armrest trying to breathe. I’m so glad I’m not one of her characters because of all the things she puts them through. WOW! The action is non-stop and jaw-dropping. The way Susan May Warren describes the mountain and the action will leave you feeling you’re right there with each step.
I'm at a loss to have words eloquent enough to convey the depth of emotions and feelings I get each time I pick up one of Susan May Warrens' books. In each of her books, I find wonderful life lessons of the love of God, woven in such a way that it is real and not fake or pushed.
Whatever Ms. Warren writes I'll read because I know I'll be captivated and blessed in a way that is life-changing.
I was given this book by the publisher which did not influence my review in any way, all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Hard to put this down! I’ve known some PJ’s from the 70’s. They were some very tough and incredible men! So this fun for me to read.

Storyline good but does drag at times as if author is trying to fill pages for which I’d take off .5 in rating, personal character of some in story line and theme to me did not exhibit a strong commit to Christianity and growth in faith that I expect when a book is labeled religious, minus .5 for this. I know some will disagree but this is my opinion. My husband would rate as 4.5 - stars.

This whole series is an emotional coaster. It was well written, good dialog, and good character interactions.

This style isn't my kind of thing.

If this had been a movie, I’d have had my hands covering my eyes, at the intensity of some of these situations!! I felt like I was on that mountain, in that tent, hanging from an ax! So scary! Loved these characters and how we’re reminded that when we are weak, God is our strength!

That was completely, utterly amazing! Whew! Now I need to come back to reality and feed my kids breakfast! I have been reading since 4:30 am and now it is almost 8 am— I couldn’t put it down. The intense, heart-in-your-throat scenes built up to a climax that took my breathe away—
Jenny is climbing to beat down guilt, Aria struggles to know who she really is deep inside, and Sasha is dealing with some severe disappointments. Broken, hurt souls thrown together on one of the most treacherous mountains in the world, Denali in Alaska. But their team of rescuers rivals the best—What can this frozen, monster-of-a-land mass throw at this group—who will make it out alive?
Ms. Warren’s first-responder romantic suspense is top-notch in this beautifully-written novel. Her descriptions created a screen before my eyes. When you read the first page, prepare yourself to enter a world where real men and women dig deep to find healing and peace.

This book was great. I could hardly put it down. Surprisingly almost the whole book is set on the mountain. It has some excellent teaching on coping with tragedy , suffering, and forgiveness. Some of my children are climbers, so I could relate to this.

This story started out interesting. The synopsis held my curiosity but the author gave too much attention to what people were wearing or what they looked like and I am waiting for the story to begin. Get to the point. I have yet to read a Christian book that I can actually like.
