Skye Fall (Pressley-Coombes, #4) Paperback – October 23, 2023
Purchase options and add-ons
“The action is non-stop in Paige Edwards' romantic adventure novel. Her plot is uniquely complex, informing an astute audience that there is more than one moral at the end of this story. Skye Fall is an exciting novel in a class of its own." -Five-Star Readers' Favorite Review
Isla Montjoy has it all, a new career in nursing and a police officer boyfriend she adores―until she stumbles across proof of her boyfriend’s corruption. Determined to protect his secrets, he attacks her and leaves her for dead. But against all odds, she lives. On the run for two years, Isla’s life is far from assured as her would-be murderer doggedly tracks her across the UK, intent on silencing her forever.
On a climbing trip in the Scottish Highlands, Ben Pressley-Coombes encounters Isla, a beautiful woman who promptly pepper sprays him without warning or reason. After that rough start, Ben hopes never to lay eyes on her again―but fate has other ideas. Forced into an uneasy association that transforms into a deep-seated romance, the pair soon faces a deadly threat: Isla’s relentless pursuer has discovered her hiding place. If she is to survive, she and Ben must outmaneuver the dirty cop and his treacherous plot to snare her.

I highly recommend it and you won't be disappointed.
The painting, the setting, the romance, the suspense, the religious elements, and the characters made this one so well-rounded and balanced. The forced proximity and twists and turns were some of my favorite parts. I haven’t read the others in this series, but now I want to, and this book can stand alone.
Content: mild romance; mild moments of danger and peril; mild religion

Great read! Paige writes beautifully!
for writing a part of yourself into this story. There were moments that Isla's and Ben's experiences felt real.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from NetGalley. The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own
When she was almost killed in the beginning I hungrily read more, wondering how she'd gotten away. Her deliverance, however, was not believable. You can't tell me that a criminal who doesn't want to be caught would leave a person to die under a bridge where someone could find them.
Had that been the only glitch, I could have looked past it. But the "bad guy" ( spoiler alert) kept showing up in illogical places. Having several family members who work in the medical field, I find it unlikely that someone could get into a hospital unit with a ski mask on to attack someone. Even if they did get past security, why would they attack in an area with so many witnesses? It would be more likely for the attack to take place in a dark parking lot outside the hospital. Or better yet, for him to hide out in her car and attack on her way home.
I also was annoyed that he just kept showing up and bumbling the attacks. I think I would have preferred if he kept getting closer and closer, then having one or two climactic attacks.
The romance was sweet. I don't know that her way into the relationship was believable, but I did enjoy it. I wasn't convinced that she could go from such trauma to miraculously being O.K. at the end, though. Don't get me wrong: I very much believe in prayer and miracles. Still, most situations of trauma I've witnessed have been a process of time even with faith and prayer. I did read the afterward and know the author drew on her own experiences of childhood abuse to write this. Still, childhood abuse and attempted murder (not abuse related) are two completely different experiences. I know a few individuals who experienced attempted murder during a robbery, as well as friends who have experienced childhood and marital abuse. Their coping mechanisms afterward and their PTSD manifested very differently. I'm not saying the two can't cross over, but I found the quick recovery in this story unbelievable.
Overall, I was disappointed. I really wanted to like this. I wanted to love it! Murder stories do bother me, but I love suspense/action/romances. This author also has great characterization and a smooth way of writing. The editing was good and the characters were believable. Unfortunately, the glitches in the plot kept throwing me out of the story. I do, though, find myself interested in reading more from this author. Just because this story fell flat for me doesn't mean others will.
