Purchase options and add-ons
GOVERNMENT CORRUPTION TRIGGERS AN ANCIENT CHEYENNE CURSE...
Greed and corruption have infiltrated the once-pristine Colorado Rockies, echoes of years past when silver miners swarmed the area like vermin, precipitating a 19th Century curse. Now a new generation delivers a different form of pollution, among them the most corrupt entity of them all.
All Sara Reynolds remembers of the wreck that slammed their Silverado to the depths of Dead Horse Canyon is Bryan's dying plea for her to expose what he found. Why did they kill him? What happened that fateful spring day? Will she and her dead husband's life-long Cheyenne friend, Charlie Littlewolf, discover his secret?
Ceremonies taught by Charlie's medicine man grandfather decades before can connect with the spirits and reveal all things. He shunned them then. He needs them now, like never before. Coupled with Sara's ethereal clues from the heavens can they find answers in time? Or will the same black ops raiders murder them, too?

Review
Brimming with drama and suspense, The Curse of Dead Horse Canyon (CheyenneSpirits) by Marcha Fox and Pete Risingsun is the first book in an exciting newseries. Opening with a heart-rending scene, the story captured my interest fromthe outset. Infused with a sense of danger, the intricate plot and dramaticstoryline create a breathtaking and intense story. Containing a fascinatingcombination of Cheyenne and Dine spiritual practices seasoned with astrology, the novel is educational as well as entertaining. The Cheyenne fasting vigil, spirit animals, and the medicine wheel combined with astrology readings areintriguing aspects of the story that are genuine and authentic. It is anexceptional novel complete with conspiracy, intrigue, and murder that willenthrall everyone who has an affinity for suspenseful thrillers with just asmidgen of the paranormal.
From the Author
From the start, this story had a life of its own. My original intent was to write a cozy mystery, but it didn't take long before it was no longer cozy, but saturated with conspiracy and intrigue. So much complexity emerged that it was clear it would take nothing short of a trilogy to complete. It was also apparent that I needed Pete's wisdom and insights, which added about 20,000 more words to the original manuscript.Pete and I have our work cut out for us writing the next two books, which promise to be at least as exciting as this one.
About the Author
Pete Risingsun is an enrolled member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe well-versed in their ceremonies and traditions, having served as a spirit helper to medicine men in ceremonial sweat lodges where traditional procedures are meticulously followed. Born the eighth child of ten in 1950, he was raised on a small ranch east of Busby, Montana. He's a proud fifth generation descendant of Chief Iron Shirt, a lodge keeper and powerful medicine man. After graduating high school in 1968 he attended Montana State University for four years. When offered a position with Exxon as an employee relations director overseas, he turned it down, instead completing a three-year apprenticeship in plant operations in Billings, Montana. He worked in that capacity for one additional year until he accepted a job as adult education director for the Northern Cheyenne Tribe back home in Lame Deer, grateful to see the refinery fade away in the rear-view mirror. Back on the reservation, Pete raised black angus cattle and bred championship Quarter horses. He served as a Tribal Council member for six years and was the first Northern Cheyenne elected as a Rosebud County Commissioner, a position he held from January 1, 2007 to December 31, 2012. He's the proud father of one daughter, Echo Raine, who blessed him with two grandchildren, Sierra Star and Skyler Seven. Pete is currently retired, but stays busy co-writing The Curse of Dead Horse Canyon series as well as making sweetgrass braids, a sacred plant used in various ceremonies.

Marcha Fox writes in a variety of genres from cross-cultural thrillers to hard science fiction and astrology. While raising six children she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Utah State University which resulted in a 21+ year career at NASA's Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. When she retired she turned to writing full-time, which had always been her dream.
Her most recent literary work is the cross-cultural trilogy, "The Dead Horse Canyon Saga," coauthored with Pete Risingsun. A masterful blend of modern day conspiracy thriller with Cheyenne history and cultural practices, the first two books collected a total of ten awards with the grand finale released in January 2025.
Other fiction work includes "The Star Trails Tetralogy," a multi-volume STEM-friendly science fiction series designed for youth with an interest in science. The series is also available as audiobooks narrated by T.W. Ashworth.
Much to the horror of her physics professors, she's a practicing professional astrologer with clients around the globe. She has written two full-length books on that subject, one for beginners and one about eclipses.
She has a passion for feline fur babies and lives in an 1898 farmhouse on three acres in rural New York State, having previously lived in California, Utah, and Texas.

- Reviewed in the United States on March 22, 2021"The Curse of the Dead Horse Canyon: Cheyenne Spirits" is a thrilling adventure full of mystery and knowledge. This is a longer read, but I didn't notice. I loved the Colorado setting and could relate to the mining details and the aftermath because I live in an old mining town. I've seen firsthand the damage it left behind. The characters immediately pulled me in, and I had empathy for Sara when she lost her husband, and almost her own life, in a car accident in a cursed area. Her memory of what occurred was gone, but that didn't stop her from trying to find the truth. Her husband's best friend Charlie starts a journey to unravel the mystery of what happened to his friend and exploring his culture. Although I loved both characters and their mutual support, Charlie was my favorite character and storyline. I have always had a deep interest in Native American Culture and the details and history, which would usually be too much in any other story, were perfect in this book. Sara's relationship with her father and stepmother was realistic, and I especially loved her stepmother introducing her to something new, which tied in nicely to what was going on. Sara and Charlie's love for Bryan pushed them into a world of greed and corruption. This is a riveting read, and it left a lot to resolve in the upcoming books, which makes me eager for their release. I highly recommend this!
- Reviewed in the United States on March 14, 2021Having been interested in the Native American way of life for some time, The Curse of Deadhorse Canyon piqued my interest.
Co-authored by Marcha Fox and Pete Risingsun (a member of the Northern Cheyenne Tribe), the book has elements of murder, a government conspiracy, greed, environmental issues, and Native American legends.
The writing style of the authors drew me in, with many descriptive scenes that made me feel I was right with the characters. The plot is well-paced and keeps the reader in suspense. It was also educational (not in a boring way), and I learned several things about the Cheyenne culture. The development of the main characters, Sara Reynolds and Charlie Littlewolf, is realistic.
All-in-all, this is a well-rounded story, both character and plot driven. It’s the first of a trilogy, and I look forward to the upcoming release of the second book.
- Reviewed in the United States on December 8, 2021I loved this book! Wonderful characters with a well written story of a young couple who stumble upon a secret government underground facility being built with 'tax money' but not for the country's benefit. The husband is murdered on this canyon road previously cursed by the Tribal Medicine chief for the injustice of white men killing Indian men, women, children & horses in order to take their land. The wife survives & with help from their best friend, a native Chyenne race to find the killers & bring down the corrupt corporations and government offices backing them. This is a non-stop read covering history, intrigue, good & bad, the people affected. I just couldn't read fast enough! Now to 2nd book...
- Reviewed in the United States on June 24, 2021The book may be long, but the fascinating story kept me turning the pages. The storyline centers around the murder of Sara's husband, her search for answers, and the traditions, and beliefs of the Cheyenne people. Capitalistic greed and environmental issues are central parts of the plot.
It is well-written with beautiful landscape descriptions, believable characters, and historical facts. I often was totally immersed in the characters, Sara and Charlie, experiencing all their emotions.
I am looking forward to the next book from these two fine authors.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 10, 2020The Curse of Dead Horse Canyon keeps the pages turning. Partially because the characters come alive, but also because I wanted to know 'who dun it'. – In other words, who would be evil enough to willfully cause an accident with the intention of murder? The authors deal with several current issues, and mix in interesting things like Native American beliefs and astrology.
Looking forward to reading more of this trilogy!
- Reviewed in the United States on August 7, 2020I really loved the layout of this book. The quotes before each chapter really give you something to ponder while you read on. The characters and their development keep you interested and wanting to read on. I'm looking forward to the next books in this series!
- Reviewed in the United States on April 10, 2021I just finished this book last night and I woke this morning feeling empty...I did not want the book to end. It was a real page-turner and I resented every minute that kept me from its pages! I had so many different dimensions that I oftentimes has to stop and absorb the collective information. Fox's details not only had me in the story, but I felt Sara's confusion as well as her panic. Charlie took me into a comprehensive world--thinks to Pete Risingsun--that I'd only heard sketchy bits about before. Again, this is a true page-turner.
