The Shadow Women Kindle Edition
The three main women in Moses's life narrate his dramatic story from their perspectives. Miryam, his seven-year-old sister, and Merytamon, his 14-year-old adoptive mother, cover his early years as an Egyptian prince. Nine-year-old Zipporah, his future wife, tells of Moses' time with her father, a priest, and their family. After God reveals himself to Moses, Miryam recounts the liberation of the Jewish people and their escape from Egypt, and Zipporah and Miryam recall the years in the wilderness. The animosity and jealousy Miryam feels for both Merytomon and Zipporah flood the narrative, poisoning their happiness, but Moses takes scant notice, focused as he is on his task of serving God. Hunt's (The Immortal; The Note) sure writing and attention to fascinating details, such as Egyptian make-up customs and the cooking techniques of nomadic desert dwellers, add new dimensions to an overly familiar tale. Give this deftly handled treatment of shadow women from the Bible to fans of Anita Diamant's The Red Tent and book discussion groups.

About the author

Christy-Award winner Angela Hunt writes for readers who have learned to expect the unexpected in novels from this versatile author. With nearly six million copies of her books sold worldwide, she is the best-selling author of more than 160 works ranging from picture books (The Tale of Three Trees) to novels and nonfiction.
Now that her two children are grown, Angie and her husband live in Florida with Very Big Dogs (a direct result of watching Sandlot too many times). This affinity for mastiffs has not been without its rewards--one of their dogs was featured on Live with Regis and Kelly as the second-largest canine in America. Their dog received this dubious honor after an all-expenses-paid trip to Manhattan for the dog and the Hunts, complete with VIP air travel and a stretch limo in which they toured New York City. Afterward, the dog gave out paw-tographs at the airport.
When she's not home writing, Angie often travels to teach writing workshops at schools and writers' conferences. And to talk about her dogs, of course.

Incredibly well researched; the small details of everyday life in the late bronze-age are captivating, painting richly detailed props and stages that expand and define each character.
While fleshed out with dramatic fiction, these character portraits stay true to what is written in the Bible about Moses's Egyptian mother, Zipporah and Miriam.
And the character studies are exquisite! The intertwined stories of the three women closest to Moses are each written in the first-person, giving each character her own uniquely distinctive voice:
Merytamon - naive, blithely arrogant in her royalty, precocious, charming and oh so very young in every way.
Zipporah- pragmatic, dryly humorous, self-deprecating, curious and intelligent- an "old soul" wrapped in a distinctively middle-eastern woman. Truly likeable.
And finally Miriam - thoroughly unlikeable comparatively but so well-written that, personal tastes aside, her character's story and perspective is just as engrossing as the other two women. Proud, jealous, self-righteous, bigoted and controlling; her "older sister" persona is believable and, for many, familiar.
While I loved the drama and three-dimensional personalities, the stories led me back to the Bible, looking for what is actually written about these extraordinary women. And isn't that exactly what Biblical fiction should do?
Shadow Women is about, well... women. Wounded, imperfect, doubting women with all their influence, drama and perspective. Shadow Women is also about grace: the grace of God discovered and lived out in a time that treated women disgracefully.
Perhaps the best summary of this book is a quote directly from it:
"In solitude and suffering I learned that Yhwh is merciful, but sometimes he must wound us in order to heal us. I also learned that solitude—even exile in the wilderness—is not abandonment. It is an intimate invitation from the One who knows us best and loves us most."
The book is extremely well written and I enjoyed reading the story or Moses through different lenses. Shadow Women is an excellent book and you won't be sorry you read it!
I highly recommend her books to all Christians- ladies especially.

Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy but Shadow Women was able to. reveal in a shorter version , of a human God loving and fearing man.
