Protect and Defend: A Thriller (Mitch Rapp Book 10) Kindle Edition

4.6 4.6 out of 5 stars 9,902 ratings

Counterterrorist agent Mitch Rapp is on a collision course with America’s most feared enemy in this white-knuckle thriller from “the best pure adrenaline-charged action writer out there” (The Providence Journal) and #1 New York Times bestselling author of American Assassin.

No longer willing to wait for the international community to stop its neighboring enemy, Israel brings down Iran’s billion-dollar nuclear program in an ingeniously conceived operation. The attack leaves a radioactive tomb and environmental disaster in its wake, and has Iranian president Amatullah calling for blood—American blood.

Seeing opportunity where others fear reprisals, Mitch Rapp devises a brilliant plan to humiliate Iran’s government and push the nation to the brink of revolution. But when a back-channel meeting between CIA director Irene Kennedy and her Iranian counterpart goes disastrously wrong, Rapp is locked in a showdown with a Hezbollah mastermind in league with Amatullah—and he is given twenty-four hours to do whatever it takes to stop unthinkable catastrophe.

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

Despite Guidall's best efforts, Flynn's words are so flat and his characters and plot so contrived and mechanical that it's hard to imagine who might actually enjoy this listening chore. The subject is certainly timely: what should the U.S. government do to defuse the Iranian nuclear program? Flynn's solution is to have top secret counterterrorism expert Mitch Rapp try to destabilize the Iranian government-a plan which goes wrong when his boss, CIA chief Irene Kennedy, is kidnapped. Guidall does manage to catch some of the sadness in Rapp's heart as he thinks about the loss of his family in a previous novel. But Guidall can't rewrite Flynn's words-very few of which give Rapp any semblance of human feeling. Simultaneous release with the Atria hardcover (Reviews, Sept. 24).

Another great read by Mr. Flynn, great attention to detail and fantasy. The arrogance of the caritures is only matched or doubled by Mitch's. Only Mr. Rapp can and will deliver no holds barred

This book was a nail biter! It was written a timeline documentary. I really wish we actually such a force in our arsenal. Today, I saw an interview with a deputy, from the State Department, and learned that it is now MANDATORY that acceptable pronouns be included in their email titles. Elections do have consequences and that includes all levels of electable offices. You get what you vote for people. In the end apathy, ignorance and delusion will destroy this great experiment. To be replaced by what?

Vince Flynn obviously wrote this novel with Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad in mind because the Iranian president in the novel is identical in every aspect to Ahmedinejad. The relevancy and gravity of what it suggests is very fitting for our times, and that's what makes this novel great.

The only negative thing I have to say is that Flynn's writing seems slightly lacking in this novel, almost as though he rushed. Most of his novels in the Mitch Rapp series are exciting yet plausible. This one, however, failed to engage and excite as much as most others and at times was a bit ridiculous. I won't be more specific.

I'll let you make your own decision. Would I recommend this novel? Yes, but not to someone for whom it would be their first impression of Vince Flynn, because he has written many other novels much better than this one. Still, it was enjoyable and classic Mitch Rapp theater.

I find it interesting how people get hooked on certain topics and authors, whether it is romance novels, western tales, assassin/spy novels, science topics and esoteric mysteries. My personal voracious reading passions scan the subjects from A to Z. Lately, I have been hooked on the Mitch Rapp spy/assassin thrillers by Vince Flynn.

I just finished reading this 10th book (Protect and Defend: A Thriller by Vince Flynn) in the Mitch Rapp thrillers and like the other books in the series, I loved it. Interestingly, this tale begins with an Iran building explosion completely destroying everything in it. The difference is that this was a super enforced building were the Iranians spent billions of dollars on their nuclear program. No one is taking responsibility for this good deed, but Iran is blaming the USA and of course Israel for sending planes or missiles to destroy the building.

Iran’s president refuses to believe the American and Israelis officials who claim they had nothing to do with the destruction and is seeking bloody revenge for both the U.S. and Israel. The terrorists have planned a devious evil plan to get back at the USA, which involves a car bombing and kidnapping.

Mitch Rapp and the U.S. President have a meeting together to discuss what information Mitch as discovered as to who did the bombing. I never give away too much information when reviewing any novel, but if you are a fan of the thrillers by Vine Flynn you will enjoy reading this action-packed novel.

I grew up watching 80s action hero’s before cgi, faux muscle suits, and tech yielding greatness. Mitch Rapp is the real deal. He’s the fictitious character we cheer, the characters we emulate, and the good guys that help the rest of us sleep at night. Protect and Defend is a your de force of focused determination to right wrongs and enact justice.

Amazing how the subject matter of this book is so current ,albeit some 10 years old. To bad that the USA can not get Mitch to help us resolve some current middle eastern political problems .

I have read all of the Vince Flynn/Mitch Rapp books. They are all fast paced, action filled and remarkably current as to the world of geo-politics. This book is no exception. I will leave it to other reviewers to provide the overview of the story. Some reviews have mentioned a level of disappointment with this book and, at first, I shared some of those beliefs. The problem, however, is not the story or the action; but the comparison to his other books. This entire collection has been excellent and the expectations of his new books are always remarkably high. If this was your first Mitch Rapp book you would have been pleased, impressed and in a hurry to buy more from this author. Was this his best - no. Was it good - absolutely yes. It is like a bar full of pretty girls: one of them is the least attractive, but still beautiful. This is another solid book from Vince Flynn.

I miss Vince Flynn. So heart wrenching he passed away so young. Mitch Rapp is just bot Mitch Rapp when it's not written by Mr Flynn. I've re read the whole series four times. Never get bored of it.

ist Mitch Rapp nicht zimperlich. Natürlich sollte man das hinterfragen, vielleicht muss man das auch, aber am Ende des Tages is the job done. Und er hat recht. The war on terror ist kein Kindergeburtstag, auch wenn politicans hinter ihren Schreibtischen und warmen Mauern nicht sehen wollen. The war on terror is nasty, dirty and bloodie.
Highly recommended.

how much i liked the previous books by Flynn, i feel very deceived by the last two that i just read: act of treason and protect and defend.
I really don't recognize Flynn writing. these two last books are verbose, the characters became empty puppets.the context descriptions are very often too long and out of interest.
For me, end of game with this author.

What ever the man wrote you can get a FANTASTIC feeling about what was happening. As I have read every book he has written until his death, I will read all others till I find it difficult to go on.
