From the Back Cover
It has been prophesied that four men, raised as brothers, will bring Scotland back to her rightful glory. The first is running for his life.
Charged with the restoration of Scotland's one true king, Duncan MacAlpin isn't surprised to find himself fleeing an army across the verdant hills of his homeland. But having to do so while shackled to a woman . . . that is a true challenge to Duncan's ingenuity and self-control. For the lovely, untouched maiden he's chained to is far too captivating to resist.
Despite her innocence, Mercy guards her own dangerous secrets. Proud and unafraid—hunted and imperiled for who she is and what she knows—she is determined to regain her freedom and never let it be taken from her again. Yet locked so tightly to her imposed escort, tempted by the warmth of the powerful Highlander's body, she aches to give herself over completely to desire . . . and risk the heart she has fought so hard to protect.

About the author
It was her love of reading and daydreaming that started USA Today bestselling author Donna Fletcher’s writing career. Donna gobbled up books from the time she could read. She also spent a good portion of her time lost in daydreams that took her on grand adventures. She met heroes and villains, and heroines that, while usually in danger, always found the strength and courage to prevail. She traveled all over the world and through time in her dreams. Some places and times fascinated her more than others and she would research and read all she could about that particular period and place. After a while, she simply could not ignore all the adventures swirling around in her head, she had no choice but to bring them vividly to life, and so began her writing career.
Donna continues to daydream, characters popping in and out of her head wherever she goes and filling her with tales that keep her writing schedule on overload. Donna writes romances that linger in your memory long after you’ve finished reading them.

I do wish how ever that someone would make it easier to know which way they go. I always seem to read at least one before the one I should have read first.
No matter. This is a real good set of four well written books & I really like Donna Fletchers wirting manner.
ADD ON: I have what appears to be the whole 4 book set, but I believe from where the last book left off the writer has another one up her sleeve & i hope it's true. These are some of the few that I have kept & will keep to read over & over again. They are great & I can't hardly wait to read the up coming addition. Awsome books, all 4 & hopefully 5 soon.
Well it wasn’t the worst historical ever written, nor was it the best (that probably would have been too much anyhow, I would have been completely ruined for all time to any other historical as they never would have lived up to the pairing (great writing + great cover) that this book had). The writing was okay, a bit meandering, and the characters developed well. Of course since this is the first in a four book series (whose covers aren’t as epic – sad day) there are a crap load of questions and clues that pop up and never go anywhere. While I am faintly interested in reading the other three books (which are all out now), I’m not in a rush.

This was a really great story and I loved it.
Mercy is such a strong young woman, I loved her!
The word coupling that came up several times that always made me cringe, like just call it something else… either way, that what made it a 4.5 star for me but the story in itself was great and I will read the next one to see who is the true King of Scotland.
